What's their to do? One of the options our TA is recommending is 4 days in Florence. I don't know what's there to see.

FOUR DAYS?!
i would take the time elsewhere - i hated Florence . . . there are some nice things to see but I think you can see them in one day and then just sleep over and leave the next day
the MOST Americanized city I have ever been to - INCLUDING cities in America LOL JK but seriously
take some of those days and stay longer in Rome ( if you are going there ) or the Amalfi Coast or Capri or Ischia or Sicily. . . .

I love florence- but I dont think there is really four days of things to do there- they have amazing museums, churches
my favorites- ponte vecchio (a really pretty historical bridge), san miniato church, and of course the straw market!
eta- the straw market is where you buy leather goods at amazing prices

I agree with Tilde. One day is plenty. Iti s beautiful and you want to say you went there but no need to spend that much time there.

I LOVED Florence, but I went in early Spring many years ago. You would be ok staying 2 days in Florence, but I would recommend you spend the rest of your days in Monacco and Nice in the French Riviera. You can go from Florence to Pisa and Assisi, then to Nice and Monacco. The views are absolutely spectacular!!! And they have a much more Mediterranean feel to them.

I agree - I loved florence though but i only was there a day and a half and we did the duomo, uffizzi, etc... i loved the Arno river. I think you could use those days better elsewhere. I'm debating whether or not florence should be a stop on our honeymoon - might do tuscany or siena or portofino instead.

Re: Who's been to Florence?
We are definitely doing Rome and Venice too. I want to go to Pisa, which I know isn't far from Florence and I really want to go to Tuscany to do wine tours. I think we can do it from Florence, but I don't know. I just want to make sure we're not missing some cool places in Florence.

Re: Who's been to Florence?
I studied in Florence. You can go on wine tours not to far away (20 min); 2-3 days is more than enough there. I wouldn't waste any time on Pisa. There is a tower and that is it. BUT if you must I recommend you continue northwest about an hour to an area called Cinque Terre (my absolute favorite). SOoooo beautiful. There are wine tours, fishing, hiking, beaches etc there and it is not as touristy as other areas. THe Amalfi coast (not far from Naples=great pizza) is romantic and beachy if you like that. They have ferry boats and you can visit quite a bit in 2-3 days. hope this info helps. you will love anywhere you go in Italy. It is unbeatable.

Ive been to Venice, Florence and Rome. Venice is by far my favorite however I thought Florence was beautiful as well..much better than Rome anyways. You have to at least go to Florence for two days...there is just so much art and stuff to see. (By the time you leave Italy, all the art will start to look the same lol) Ive been to Italy quite a few times cause I have family there, and I always prefer to travel to small towns where you really can enjoy the real people of Italy.

Re: Who's been to Florence?
Florence is AMAZING!!! I loved it. I could stay there for a week! But you can definitely do it in a day. I did when I went with my family.
My suggestion is to stay in a more rural area of Tuscany b/c the scenery is just out of this world... then rent a car and do Florence for a day, and do vineyard in Chianti for a day. There are some other really great towns in Tuscany too. Someone just FMed me about Florence from another post I left and I wrote back my Italy review... if you'd like me to send it to you, FM me.

I agree with you 100% about Pisa- nothing but the leaning tower and a million tourists all trying to take their picture in front of it with their hands up (angling the camera so it looks like they're holding it up) I've always wanted to do the Almafi coast... We stayed in Castelina in Chianti. Next time that's where I'm going.

Re: Who's been to Florence?
go to the Ponte Vecchio, so romantic. There's also the Pallazzo Medici, Uffici and the doumo, too bad it was under construction when I was there.

Re: Who's been to Florence?
I went to Florence, but I went on a trip with my all girls catholic high school. From my experience, all there was to do there was see alot of basilicas, but that is definitely warped by the fact that the trip was planned by our teachers. I think 4 days would be longer than you need there. Rome was way more fun and I found it alot more interesting.

Re: Who's been to Florence?
I think you definitely need more then 1 day. I was in Rome and took a day trip there and I wish i had more time. We booked a private tour with a company called tuscany in my pocket (you can google it) and our guide was amazing. He took us through florence and then we went into Tuscany to some vineyards it was AMAZING! We stopped in an old midevil town it was great. If you want any more info on that FM me. I truly recommend it.
Florence is like a lot of cities in rome, lots of chuchs museums great architecture and a a few great markets to get great italian leather and jewelry!!!
