I thought a friend of FH's would be able to be our Dj, well I found out it's not going to happen, so now I have to find one, I don't want to spend more than $1000, $600 to $800 would be best, who do you recommend?

I booked with A Starry Night in NYC but they were 1400

Just out of curiosity, what's the going rate for DJ's? A friend of mine who used to DJ said he could recommend some good ones for 1100 or 1200, but since this is all new to me, I have no clue if that;s a good deal or not!!!

We booked Vinny from High Voltage Sounds. His prices were amazing ($650 for basic package, 1 man dj/mc and basic lights) and he was wonderful. He put FI and I at ease. He is really upfront with everything and doesn't try to sell you the most expensive package.

I chose Mark Cord of Energy Entertainment.
I had met him at the Vanderbilt's food tasting when I went with my moh SFP0214. I spent the night talking with him and viewing his videos and we really 'clicked' (not in a bad way!!!!). He just got married and his business has been around for a while, so he really felt comfortable.
Not sure of all the prices, it may be on the higher side of what you want to spend. But he's not cheesey. He's just what I (and FH) wanted. My parents agreed that they liked his style - no fake Italian accent (my relatives would shoot that down right away), no 'Yo Yo Yo's', just a good professional DJ. I paid more for the owner, because I was impressed with him.
I also got a Sinatra singer and can't wait!

me too - for the same reason. I like being a low-maintenance bride - - and I think Vinny was a perfect fit for me in that respect!

We booked SGE (Satisfaction Guaranteed Entertainment)...a friend of my moms recommended them...we know an few different people who have used them and said they had everyone dancing...we are paying a little over $1200 for them...

I'm using FM Entertainment. Their prices are under $1000. I felt very comfortable with the DJ/MC and felt his personality would add to the wedding and not draw excess attention.

Li Sound but we are spending close to $2000! We added some extras for cocktail hour and had a live percissionist for reception! FH and I agreed music would be a splurge without going broke with a band!!

We booked Body Rock.. cause every wedding we went to they were awesome.. We upgraded the lights a bit cause I have epylepsy and We got the higher lights so that way they werent directly in my eyes.. and we got the sinatra guy for half hour during dinner.. that is basically a gift for our parents. Everything was around $3000. But you can get cheaper!
