I just got engaged a few months ago and my extended family is already competing with me. Long story short....my fathers side of the family is always competing with people, who's house is bigger, who has the better car, etc....now apparently I'm in competition with a cousin of mine without me even knowing it!! He is getting married the same year just 3 weeks after my wedding date after a 8 year engagement. I am very happy for him (and I know its not him competing, its his mother). But it still hurts! I dislike negativity and I honestly do not care what they think, but like I said, it still hurts that family could be so mean. Unfortunately, this aunt is my fathers sister, so out of respect I have to be somewhat nice, but boy are they pissing me off...Thanks for the vent ladies.

That's really very annoying (One-Uppers are my biggest peeve in the world). Just try not to focus so much on what they think or say. Just keep your mind focused on your wedding and your planning. Even if any of those family members try and bring up your wedding planning just say you'd rather not talk about it and leave things as a surprise. If anything it might annoy your aunt more not knowing the details of your wedding because then she won't have anything to one-up you on with her son's wedding.

Ha! That is exactly what is happening. No one in my family knows when I'm getting married so they are all worried that I might make it the same day as my cousin! But I was actually three steps ahead of them and found out when their wedding date was so that I do not accidentally make it the same date. My aunt keeps recruiting family members to try and find out when my date will be, how crazy is that!
P.S I have a very large family so she is asking all of my cousins!
So because of that I might have to change my date on LIW since I seem to have lurkers all of a sudden
Edited since I am so horrible at spelling! ugh

yeah if I were you I would change date and all your info on here (just put 'Booked' for everything - even church and RH).

Cynthia, I completely understand what you are going through. My mother's side of the family is always turning everything into a competition. It even got to the point where one of my mother's first cousin yelled at another cousin accusing her daughter-in-law of purposely giving birth around the same time her son was getting married. As much as it hurts, try not to pay attention to the nonsense. Family can sometimes be worst... . Just last night I got into an argument w/ my mom regarding MY maid of honor (I'm not too fond of having my sister as MOH-negative isn't even the word)!!! Don't be suprised if she starts calling your father in hopes of finding out details. I really don't understand why weddings can sometimes bring out the worst in people!!!

My cousin [married in] changed her son's Bar Mitzah to 3 weeks before my wedding so her party could be first
It was originally the week after my wedding. I even called her to make sure of his date and then she went and changed it so his party was first.
