You want an E-party you have an E-party~! Dont let anyone get you down, so if your not working it doesnt have to be an extravagent mini wedding, its just something to celebrate a special moment in your life. I hope it all works out

I agree - if you want to have one then, you have one that best fits you & your fiance whether you want something enormous & elaborate or if you want something smaller & personal. Do yourself a favor now & stop listening to what people say and do what you & your fi want.

could she be jealous?
You will be celebrating a very joyous time in your life. No one has the right to tell you not to do something for yourself

thank you wishcandy. I just take words so seriosly. When people arent happy for me I feel like they are trying to ruin my happiness.

Thanks though. I agree, I should stop listening to these people

Melissa - if you both want an e-party, have one! How is that selfish? Its your money, do what you want with it.

Here's the way I see it. You being out of work is a temporary situation, but you're engaged NOW - that can't wait until you get a job. You know things will get better.

For example, for our 1st anniversary is next week, we splurged on gifts for each other and we're going away for the weekend. Yes, money's tighter since I'm not working, but I will be again someday and our anniversary is NOW! We didn't want to downplay our anniversary, and then regret it later when money's flowing again.

Its an important occasion and you should celebrate however you want!

Don't let people get you down. Have the party and have a blast! -Lisa

Seems to me that your mom is a little jealous of your FMIL.She could also be having a hard time losing you.
If you want to have a party and everyone is giving you a hard time, throw your own.

Chippa - Definitely have your party! We got engaged in December and had our party in late July. And my mom made me crazy too. But she eventually calmed down so there is hope. Hang in there!

People s u c k!!! Your mom sounds jealous of your FILs (something I can DEF. relate to ~ my mom is totally jealous of my FMIL). My best friend had her e-party 6 mos. after her engagement because she wanted it a year before her wedding - everyone knew she was engaged (duh!) Don't listen to anyone - people are always going to have something to say! Do what makes you and FH happy!

Chip - you DEFINETLEY HAVE THAT E-PARTY!!!! We are also on a smaller budget (but parents are helping thank goodness) We're just gonna do it at the place we met - they used to be a lounge but now have a restraunt too! It will be nice because of our history there. DO SOMETHING YOU WILL ENJOY and forget eveyrone else - they each have their own agendas

Chip, I don't think your friend was insensitive, she was being honest and realistic. We had our engagement/housewarming party within a few weeks of our engagement and that was done only for friends. I figured the fact that the wedding will bring everyone together is good enough.

You're not working, and want to have a wedding and will be moving soon. While I agree that it is unfair that your mom backed out of the e-party promise, i think you should realize that the e-party is just to celebrate your engagement. It doesn't have to be fancy, expensive, etc. We had cocktails/appetizers at our house and then went out for dinner with our friends. To me its more personal this way, then having a large # of guests.

The fact that you don't see your family often (one a year or less) is not really an excuse to have everyone together. If 'everyone' enjoyed the company of being together, your family would meet with each other more often.

I don't mean to be insensitive and I hope that this post will not make you more upset. But I do think that your friend was offering you just a realistic, non-bridal perspective.
