So, I am out shopping after work today. I have a new car so I am very particular where I park my car. Anyway. I come out of the store and some not-so-nice lady parks her ugly brown mercedes next to mine, but leaves about 6 inches between her driver's side and my passenger side. So, of course, I check for scratches, and wouldn't you know...on my passenger door there was a scratch in the color of the ungly brown merecedes!!! So as I am talking to FH and trying to decide how to handel it, not-so-nice-ugly-brown-mercedes-lady comes out of the store and just stands there watching me look at the scratch. So, I decide to call her on it. I said politely, 'you seemed to have scratched my door'. She got all huffy saying that it was impossible and that she was extra careful when she got out (uh, how about fixing your parking so you are not so close?!). With that she got in her car and drove off! Now, I am a size 5 and I could barely fit between the 2 cars...she was bigger than me. So I watch her get into the car...and she is trying to get in so careful because she knows I am watching her. Guess what? She hit it again...just more 'gently'. I got her plate #, but what am I really going to do? An apology would have been nice. I am pissed because the car is only a couple of months old and I am still cherishing the 'newness'. What's so hard about a little 'I am so sorry, I did not realize'? Sorry so long. I feel better now. Why don't people just respect other people property?

I know it sucks... something similar happened to my husband last week... our car was parked at his work parking lot and he noticed this truck unloading merchandise from it parked really close to our car... anyways, so Greg walks by once just to see if everything is ok, it was... the second time he walked by (he loves his honda lol) wouldnt you know it, there was scratch on the hood... he of course called the guy out but hey do you think he admitted to hitting the car with something... nope... I hate when people dont take responsibility for their actions

Something similar happened to me. i'd had my car less than 6 mnths and I'm sititng in the car in a parking lot and this guy drives up and blatantly slams his door into mine. I get out of the car and I'm like 'excuse me, you just hit my car?' and he started in with 'it's justa material possession. It's not big deal. i know it's your first car, and you probably pray to it at night, but there are more important things in life.'
i was SO pissed off. coudln't believe it. HE hit my car and he was lecturing me! WHAT?? I was like 'it may be a material thing, but it's mine, not yours and you need to respect other people;s property!' he just walked off muttering, and when he came back to his car, I got out and stood there and watched him get in his car, which may be immature, but I was pissed, and GOD HELP HIM if he hit my car aagin with his huge ugly door!

People suck! Maybe you could go back to the dealership and they could either buff it out or use a little touch up paint.
I was in the employee parking lot at work one time and some lady parked too close to me and when she got out she hit my car with her door (I was still in the car) so I called her on it. She denied it and I was like I saw you do it, I'm right here, I was sitting in my car! And she still denied it! People are crazy!

call the police. technically, it could be a hit and run.
I had someone lightly hit my car while I was sitting in the parking lot. The police wrote up a report and the person's insurance had to pay for the repairs..

Call your insurance company. Give them the license plate, and they can run it to find out who she has insurance with. Then you can file a claim against her. She'll probably still deny it but you saw her at least once so you have a chance they'll pay you something.

I would report it too, on principle. If you'd hit her by accident I bet she would have thrown a fit.
Was FH with you, or were you on the phone? If he was there and he saw her hit your car again that would help your case.

FH says he can probably buff it out...but it still makes me mad!
Unfortunately FH was not with me...no one was, I was just really running an errand. Although FH is a big guy w/ a mohauk, I don't know what she would have done.
A car is just a material thing??? Are you kidding me??? Yes, it is a material thing...but it's an expensive one!!! Even cheap cars are expensive! If you would have rammed into his, he would have thrown a fit! I would have sat there completely dumbfounded if someones said that to me! God knows if I did the same to her mercedes (even though it was ugly) she would have asked for my insurance info!
I don't know if I really want to report it to my ins though. It goes on as a claim and my ins co gets cranky.

I agree, file a claim with your insurance, give them the place number and tell them it was a brown mercedes, set up an inspection with your insurance company and they will take pictures of your car which will show the brown paint transfer.....

also another good idea is to keep a camera with you in your car.... when you saw the dent you could have taken a picture of your car and hers with the damage, and picture of the license plate....it would make it tough for her to deny when you report it.

I'm sorry this happened to you.

Honestly, if it is something like a small scratch I would not report it to your insurance company. They shouldnt drop you because of a comp claim, but if something else happens then they might. Some reputable car washes also have detailing as well and should be able to get the scratches out. It will probably be less than if you had to pay more for car insurance...JMO though (I work for an insurance company)

I agree...it's just a scratch. It's just the principle of it. Why do people care so little about other people's property? We all just work as hard as they do for the things we have (actually sometimes harder).

Do you have a friend that works in an insurance company? My friend was able to look up the plate number of the person who hit my mother's car and it gave her all of her info. Of course it's illegal to do that, but boy is it funny to see the look on their face when you show up at their door for the money!!
