Originally, we wanted a fall wedding- October or November because I LOVE the leaves and the weather. We really wanted 10-10-10 because thats just kinda cool (and its a sunday of a holiday weekend0 We also considered March and then later on June.
When we went to Jericho Terrace they gave us a great price for July (which we hadnt even thought about). They said they open for july 10th. We booked for the next week (July 17th) because we both like the number 7
The day of the week we picked was a Saturday...we're doing an afternoon wedding because its cheaper, the sun will still be out for outside pictures, and we have 3 flower girls who may get cranky at night.

I like spring but the prices that we were getting were insane, so the end of March was perfect!

We both like Winter and the cold season, so we wanted to get married around that time. December is crazy between our families and friends, we have 6 birthdays, Christmas and Hanukkah, and February flower prices start going insane with Valentines day, so we wanted to avoid that. That left January
The 17th was a very strategic date, its the sunday of Martin Luther King Weekend, so a lot of people have off on the monday, so my family and OOT guests could fly up on Saturday, go to the wedding on Sunday, and fly home on Monday without having to miss too much work or school

We wanted to get married on a 9...the only dates in 2009 that fall on a 9 on a Sat is in May...May wasnt going to work for us..then I decided on a Christmas themed wedding...but when we saw that Jan 9th 2010 fell on a Sat we booked for that date...I am really happy with the winter too...Im going to have a winter wonderland!!!

We had to plan our date around FH's working schedules and racing schedule. So anywhere between March-Novemeber were out for us, leaving only Dec-Feb. I really wanted a New Years Eve wedding, but the prices were crazy.
So I picked the 2nd, because it close enough to the new year and people have plenty of recovery time. But first I had to ask my favorite Aunt if I could have that day, because that is her anniversary and has been married for 20 years now. Of course she said yes.

i wanted a friday the 13th wedding (i love that date so much...i'm morbid i guess )
and my dad didn't want me to have it during a winter month he wanted to make sure everyone could make it without weather being such a big factor...so when we found out our anniversary was friday the 13th we jumped on the chance!
so we'll be getting married on our 6 year anniversary

we wanted enough time to plan, and i'm weird about numbers, so we wanted 2010. we chose may because of the weather, and again, the number 5, lol. ideally, i'd get married on the 25th but since it doesnt fall on a saturday, 15 was the closest.

We picked July because Im a teacher and wanted to be off the weeks b4 the wedding to do last mintue things. We picked the 24th cause my cousin is getting married the 3rd and we figured it was enough time in between the 2 weddings.

You know what's weird, my younger brother and sister, 15 and 9, obviously not twins were both born on the same day, Friday, Nov the 13th! Sorry OP for digressing!

Where are you having it?? When we were looking most places were MORE expensive because of the holiday weekend Thats one of the reasons we decided not to do it on that date.
I don't think its nuts to start planning now- in fact most people say its smart because you get the 08/09 prices and get to book thevendors you want. Esp. if you want the date 10-10-10 you should be booking now- that date will probably fill up quick!

We also picked 10-10-10. It actually started off as a joke because that's the first thing people asked when we first got engaged - like a day or 2 after. Unfortunately, I was in the middle of tax season when we got engaged and hadn't really started to even think about it yet. But it grew on me.... and realistically for 4 months out of every year, I can't do anything during tax season. Now that its over, I can go back to planning.

Yes - it is a holiday weekend, however, a lot of people don't have off for Columbus Day - if you are worried about having too many people, don't send out STD's - it will also save you some money.
