Why do people insist on purchising outside of the registry

My dad just called me to tell me that one of his friends purchased all my china at another store and I should take it off my Macy's registry. Uh hello...my shower is TOMORROW and all my china already got purchased by someone last week.

This is why you dont go off the registry people. Duh.

At least I will have a nice credit to buy more stuff at Macy's now.

Re: Why do people insist on purchising outside of the registry

that's fine to get it cheaper, but dont buy it 24 hours in advance and expect me to take it off my registry for you. Did you think maybe someone else might have thought to buy it by now? Its just dumb.

Re: Why do people insist on purchising outside of the registry

I know how you feel... i gave my mom my passwd to my registries incase someone did that and found it less $$ else where, which i am all for..

buuuuut! I FMIL, insists on purchasings thing i have on the registry from else where that are not even the same color/style etc as the one i registerd for.. i keep asking and finally registered for a bbq set that is all stainless steel to match the stainless steel bbq and i made sure the set had all the tools we would want (especially a cleaning brush and replacement) and what does she do.. buys random wooden ones, that DOESNT have the tools i made sure the one we want has... she's done this with another item and she got the UGLIEST color, she asked if we didnt like it to let her know so she could return it and not waste money, i told her i didnt like the color and she got all pissy with me and basically started arguing with me... arggghhhh!.. so needless to say we still have the ugly one and i dont want it!! this is her thing.. she knows what you want but gets what she likes...

Alot of times if your china is cheaper somewhere else then they will get it there but they should call the store that you are registered at and inform them for you.

Re: Why do people insist on purchising outside of the registry

my fmil is the same way, for my shower, she did not buy me one item off my registry. i got crap, basically, things i don't need, nor do i have room for. i can't understand why she chose to do this.

i only shop off registries, to me, they are the greatest things ever.

They probably found it cheaper elsewhere.

I remember when I was a bride, I was VERY upset when people purchased off of the registry.

But, I can honestly see why they would if they can find it cheaper elsewhere.

Exactly. I didn't get upset over it. I would just call the store I had my registry with and have them mark that item as 'has'

My aunt got my lenox cake topper for me, but got it at Macy's rather than Fortunoff. I just called Fortunoff and had them mark it as had so that nobody else would buy it.

So, you return it and get something else. Just be grateful that someone spent all that $$ to get you a really nice gift like purchasing all your china. There are bigger things to get aggrivated about other than whether or not someone bought something that you had on your registry at another store.

Re: Why do people insist on purchising outside of the registry

My FMIL refuses to purchase anything off of our registry - she wants to get us what she wants to get us and not things that we want Of course, her taste is totally different from ours so this should be fun

All I can say is, I'd be very grateful to receive such a generous gift.

Re: Why do people insist on purchising outside of the registry

i had a few people buy me things that we on my registry, but was purchased at a different store. No biggie. But what I don't understand is one person who went to Fortunoff - where i AM registered - and still bought something that was not on the registry. Explain that to me please!
