soo i just got back from bridal reflections in massapequa. i found a dress that looked great on me. the lady (darnell) and my mom both agreed. i didnt get the 'the one' feeling but it was close and really not what i thought i would get. so i tried on 4 more dresses, the first of which i liked the best. and that was it. i was basically rushed out the door. maybe its my fault for going to 6pm appointments after work but so far im really missing the 'shopping' part of this.. like i want to go in and look around and take all the dresses i want into a room. i dont like these weird women picking them out for me. for example, while i was trying on one dress i pointed to another one on the wall and said 'i want to try that one on.' the lady actually said 'no you dont.' like what?? and the one i wanted to try on was double the $$ than the one i was wearing.. plus i went in there with pages and pages of dresses that i liked and she said she had a few and then never brought them out.. she like only followed my lead for a minute and then brought out whatever was closest..and then im standing up there on the pedestal at the end of the appt and she said 'ok you have to take it off , i have people waiting.' and theres NO ONE ELSE THERE!! she also tried to pull that 'you better buy it now, or it might be gone next time you come back.' heard SOO many girls say that this is a load of cr**p so i just rolled me eyes a bit and moved one..
ok my vent it over. heres the dress but i would get it with a sweetheart neckline..but once again liked it a lot but not sure if it was 'the one.' still waiting for that feeling.. this one was a james clifford and WAY different then the ones i tried on at kleinfelds. this one really fit my body well though and my mom looked like she might cry and the price was right..still didnt exactly feel it though..
EDITED: now that im looking at this post its a little more depressing sounding than i actually am..i really enjoy gown shopping and i find that i find too many that i like and i dont know how ill choose..its just a bit frustrating working with some people sometimes!!

I have to say that really is a GORGEOUS dress!! I would definitely keep looking though - just for peace of mind. I felt the same way when I went to bridal reflections for my dress. I felt rushed and the lady wasn't listening to suggestions and she even told me that I didn't want to try on a maggie dress because it was of poor quality!! I would just shrug it off - some people are just rude!!

I had a similar shopping experience with BR of Massapequa... when I called to make the appointment, they asked how much I wanted to spend on a gown, i was like um not more than 1500 (i'm not about to say i want to spent 5K on a dress!) and she responded, well all our dresses start at 1000 do you still wnat to come?
I did still go, and I brought pictures, specifically telling the woman I am not a poufy type girl, i know thats really in now, but its not me, i dont want it..... yet she still felt the need to inform me with every single dress I tried on, that we can add a crinoloine slip underneath for more pouf. I was ready to smack her in the head with her crinoline slip.
When she finally gave me something that had the right shape that I was looking for, even though I wasnt impressed with the specific dress, she was pretty much done with me.. I said 'i like how this dress falls on me, but not this dress itself' and she was like 'great i'll write down the # for you for when you come back'... yeah, ok.. i'll be doing that... they really just did not listen at all....
I had a much better time at other places

ugh! ***!! You should try Pricilla of Boston. Thats where I went to try dresses on and she let me take in ANYTHING I wanted and also picked some out similar to my taste or something she thought would suit me. I mustve tried on 10 dresses atleast that day. And she didn't rush me at all. It was a VERY nice experience. I also went to Bridal Center in Lynbrook on Sunrise HWY... they didn't have too many dresses in a sillhouette style which is what I was looking for, but they had a ton of other beautiful dresses that I tried on, and they were great there too. But Pricilla was really a GREAT place... try it!!! It's in Manhasset

when I went to Adriennes, Sofia took me around the dresses and would ask me which ones i liked, pulled some she liked, and ended up with about 15 dresses.
I went to BR in Massapequa and was with Darnell too - I hated the way that they picked dresses for you - i had a binder of what I liked and the dresses she picked were nothing close!
don't worry, you'll find the dress!

i also had a horrible experience at Bridal reflections in Carle Place. After waiting a half hour I tried on one gown that was $5,000 when I told them I didn't want to spend more than $3,000. She left me standing in it for at least 10 minutes while she went to look for another one. All I wanted was a mermaid silhouette! I got so frustrated that my mom helped me out of it and we left. They interview you on the phone when you call about what you like, they sit with you before you are allowed to look at any of their precious dresses, and then its so obvious that they don't even consider it!
Priscilla of Boston was the best experience! They let you go through all the dresses in the store, there is no trying on limit. I went to 4 other places before getting to them. I also thought that I wasn't going to have that 'moment' when you put on the dress, but as soon as I put this one on I knew it was the one. They were really great about working with me to squeeze it into my budget, and I've gone to go visit the sample dress twice so far and they never have a problem with me just putting it on to show someone or just to refresh my memory. They are really really great. I highly recommend them!

I would say if you don't feel completely comfortable with the dress - keep looking. BR in Massapequa leaves a little to be desired at times and their service isn't always the best. You should be able to try on all the dresses YOU are interested in seeing because you never know what is going to pop out at you when its on.
Unfortunately, a lot of places tend to hurry you along a bit so it is a necessary evil. Keep 'window shopping' and don't let them pressure you into getting a gown you 're not really feeling.
Best of luck and most importantly, HAVE FUN!!!

That's my dress! I tried that on at BR in Massapequa as well, and didn't like the attitude I was getting. It was as if they didn't think I was serious, so they didn't want to be bothered. The girl helping me actually got insulted if I said I didn't like a dress! Anyway, this dress was the last one I tried on - after trying on about 30-40 dresses, and I decided it was what I wanted, but I would never buy it at BR because of the way I was treated. I know some people have a good experience, and that's great, but I just didn't.
If you're not sure, keep shopping. I went to probably 10 or more shops, and like I said, I tried on over 30 dresses. However, if you do decided on a James Clifford dress - I bought mine at Reba's Brides in North Bergen, NJ. It's almost right through the Lincoln Tunnel - just a few miles north of it. The dresses were $300 less than BR, they don't charge tax in NJ, and they don't charge for alterations - just a bustling fee which maxes out at $150 (I think).
Good luck!

That is a beautiful dress!!! But I know what you mean with the 'the One' feeling. It took a while for me to get there also. I went to the same shop and while I don't remember who helped me, she also asked what kind of dress I liked and went from there. The only good thing was that I tried on dresses that looked really good in styles I never thought of. I went in the evening too and was getting kind of pushed out the door to, no where near as bad as they were to you though.
Keep shopping it'll get better and when you find 'The One' you'll know.

Re: why do they call it gown 'shopping'?? semi-vent
i had the SAME experience at the same place!!
i had one specific dress i wanted to try on and after she showed me that one she was like ok so what now?
so i kept telling her styles i wanted - and she basically told me 'all our dresses are strapless' which is the one thing i said i didnt want!
so my mom, sister and cousin had to walk around the place and actually STEAL dresses that other girls were done with or were just hanging there just for me to try on!
i kept asking her to go downstairs and look for more dresses and she just kept telling me to try on the original dress!
THEN she told me i better order it now before it was discontinued - but when i called lillette's they told me the dress was so new they didnt even have it yet!!
THEN at BR in Carle Place i specifically said i didnt want to MAKE a dress - and the woman kept showing me 'oh the bottom of this dress with the top of this dress with the sleeves of this one and hteback of this one'!!!!!!
sorry you had a bad experience - you are not alone
i cant wait to go back to lillette's thats the only place i really enjoyed and it felt more like what i thought dress shopping would be!

I love James Clifford (who is Jim Hjelm BTW) and his dresses are great-- I have one!! From the collection before the collection where your dress is from. He is reasonable and since I have already tried on my dress-- I know-- that they are made so well, OMG!! Putting it on was a delight...
But you need to follow your heart-- that dress can ALWAYS be ordered so in the mean time maybe you should go to a few other places and look around just to make sure-- don't second guess yourself and just follow what you feel.
Good luck-- I love the dress, it's beautiful.

That's the dress I bought. I loved it. I wasn't 'crazy' about the pleats in the back, but once bustled the bustle actually fits in the pleats and itt completes the look I think. I almost bought the Maggie Sottero Grace, but just wanted a zip up back, not corset. Good luck!

Try wedding center in commack if you just want to look at and try on tons of dresses. You dont need an appointment and I tried on a ton of dresses.
The service is terrible, but you can get a good idea of what type of dresses you like.

It is a gorgeous dress. But if you don't have the feeling go with a picture of this dress to another salon and ask to try on ones that are similar to it and maybe then you'll find 'the one'. Good luck!!!
