Re: Why do videographers???
I think they charge for it because if people just want the raw footage, he wouldn't be making any money!!! Our raw footage was included in our package.

Re: Why do videographers???
Most of the videographers I looked at only charged for raw footage if you weren't paying them for an edited DVD version. The general idea is that you can use the footage to make your own DVD instead of paying for their editing services. But if you are already paying for the editing services they should give you the raw footage with it.

Re: Why do videographers???
My videographer is not charging us for raw footage. We asked if we could have it and he said yes. We are going with Golden Moments.

Re: Why do videographers???
I had the same question (ours only charges us 100), so I asked my FH who knows about everything computer/technology related. He said something along the lines of: Videographers shoot in one format (nothing 'normal' people have), so they need to tranfer the video from that format to 'normal' format. If they're tranferring to DVDs, they have to transfer it to the computer, then compress it to mpgs, then burn it. It takes twice the amount of time of the actual wedding (not hard labor, but time consuming) to create the raw footage as DVDs.
I thought it was completely no work too, but hope this response helps...

Re: Why do videographers???
my videographer told me that raw footage is extra because you're recording everything, so you're not turning off the camera, repositioning an re-recording...it easier to start and stop, more difficult to make sure you get everyhing without turning off the camera...I assumed that's why it cost more
