Some people are dopes and forget to put down their names. They'll just write in a number (2) attending. So, if you haven't numbered the response cards, it's a PITA to figure out who sent back the blank card.

Ditto...and I actually received about 5 with no names.

I wish I would have done this. Everyone wrote their name but some people's hand writing is so bad that it was a real pain to figure out who it was from.

So how do you do it?
You put a little number in the corner and keep a list of each guest and there number I assume is how its done..

I definitly didnt think of doing this, add one more thing to the list.

I had one person not put their name so it came in handy when i numbered them. I put them under the stamp.

I didn't number mine, I made address labels and put them on the back of the RSVP envelope. So when they came back to me, their address was on it.

My response cards were foldover - so I put a little number inside the card which corresponded with my master list (the one I used for the calligrapher). Now, when I get back responses I checked off that I got them on the left hand sign of the list (names are centered) and on the right I put how many attending or regret. I've also noted incoming gifts and noted the date I sent a thank-you. Very handy.
The numbering also came in handy for people with the same name (father & son). It helped me figure out which one was responding.

This was exactly the same reason and way I did mine.

The address label is a good idea, but not everyone keeps envelopes, I know I just kept the cards, so that wouldn't have worked for me.

I put my guest list and all the envelopes in alphabetical order and just assigned a number to each person, and wrote it in small handwriting on the back of the rsvp card. We invited waaaaaaaaay too many people to not number the back of the cards.

I have a good one, thank goodness I did- I received an rsvp out of the envelope and I couldnt for the life of me make out the name and barely made out the number of guests it was ripped and smudged- it came with a letter from the post office with apologies that it got ripped in 1 of their machines - I wonder how often this happens!!!!! If it wasnt for the number I would have been in a disaster- can you imagine calling your guests- Hi I recieved an rsvp the post office ruined it , did you send one or are you coming? I would have been mortified!!!!

I didn't number mine. But I filled in the names on the RSVP except those who were invited '& Guest.' On those I wrote the person's initials on the back of the card in pencil.

I only had 1 person not put his name on the card. And boy, did I give him grief about it.

Re: why do you number your rsvps?

I just got one back with no name and no check as to whether they will or will not attend. It is one of FH's guests so I asked him to please call and find out whether they are coming. (By the way, FH thought I was crazy when I was numbering the response cards, so I LOVE the fact that it was one of his guests)

One of our guests mailed the RSVP card back to us BLANK. Thank goodness for numbering the back, I called them up and asked whether or not they were coming - they were not, but they wore mortified. Lol. I could have been really bad without the numbering.

I numbered mine for the same reasons other ladies posted. I was a little worried that someone might see the penciled number on the back of the card (I know I've checked before ) and think that they were way down on the list if they had a high number. So, I bought an invisible ink pen and blacklight to write my numbers. It was so much fun - I felt like I was a little kid playing with a cereal box toy!

We actually used a black sharpie on the response envelope to number them and put the stamp over the number. If you look at the inside of the envelope you can still see the number (it's just backwards).
