WHY DOES BIRTH CERTIFICATE NEED TO HAVE A RAISED SEAL
WHEN GETTING MARRIAGE LICENSE?
THIS IS WHAT THE WEBSITE STATES:
Proof of Age and Identity A person is required to establish proof of age and identity by submitting to the issuing clerk one of the following age related documents:
Birth Certificate Baptismal record Naturalization record Census record
And one of the following identity related document:
Driver's license Passport Employment picture ID Immigration record
NOW WHERE DOES IT SAY RAISED?? CAN SOMEONE EXPLAIN?
TIA, Q

We went to Islip Townhall. FH is from maryland and his birth certificate does not have a raised seal and we were fine. Not sure about NY certicates without raised seals though.

raised seal means it's authentic. Otherwise it could be altered.

it just means they want to see your original, not a copy. originals in nys have a raised seal on them.

I dont think you need your birth cert at all if you get your license in the city-they have their own website with their requirements and it doesnt say you need the birth cert

I would check out the county clerk website (or call). They usually say it has to have a 'Raised seal'... at least Town of Brookhaven and Babylon do. FH doesnt have a raised seal on his either. I tried to call the town clerk today but it was after hours. I'll call 2morrow and let you know what they say.
