Well Fh works in marketing & has media training...meaning they tell you what works 'on camera' or not...he said solid brighter colors are better than patterns, you don't want a color that washes you out....also you don't want colors that clash with each other...also think of your background...if you are on the beach you want more vibrant colors that will 'pop' and keep you from blending into the b/g...in a park you wouldn't want green or brown that may blend in...those are the only reasons i would say to think about your color choices

for black and white photography? sorry, i'm not sure exactly what you're asking.
if it is in reference to b&w photography, one reason it matters is for contrast, etc.
