Are they really necessary or worth it? Do you get a better deal that way?
I'm doing so much research and it's exhausting. Would a TA be able to put together a better package than I could? And how much do they charge?
Thanks!

Re: Why does one need a travel agent?
Our TA took care of everything for us. It was definitely one less headache.

Re: Why does one need a travel agent?
thye don't charge anything, it should be reflected in the price...
where are you honeymooning? i recommend going to a TA who specialize in that area 'cus they wil be able to get nyou better deal and better tips.... get one if you are going to a very exotic place and really don't want to be stuck in a hotel that's in a bad area of town.
a TA would be able to tell you such things and give you maps, etc.
a friend of mine booked a trip to spain on her own and was mugged 'cus her hotel was in a bad area of town! :(

Re: Why does one need a travel agent?
Absolutely not! We never use a travel agent (waste of money in my opinon) and we arent using one for our HM. We know exactly what we want and where we want to go. We booked our honeymoon for 5 nights in Dubai and then 7 nights in the Maldives. My FH has so much experiance with booking vacations we always joke around and say hes a travel agent. He knows more than they do!
Just do research on hotels and places you would like to go and decide yourself. Read about the location,food,etc..besides it fun! Thats was travel agents do.

Well, we want to do something tropical- I was hoping for a Sandals resort type place. But FH wants to go budget, and Cancun seems to be the only place that fits. But we've already been there and I want something new! I was hoping we could do well with our budget elsewhere- Jamaica or Bahamas or something! We really want all-inclusive too.
Thanks!

Re: Why does one need a travel agent?
We used one and it was the best decision we ever made. We researched pricing on our own (using the travel websites) and found that the prices from our TA were as good if not better. She was also able to book our transportation to and from the airport and got us a meal plan (breakfast was free every day) at our hotel that wasn't offered on the websites. We also had a contact in Barbados for booking excursions who was really helpful...She actually came to our hotel to meet with us in person.
In my opinion, the personal attention you get from a TA is something you can't get when you book everything yourself. If I had a question about any part of the trip, I could contact her and didn't have to worry about dealing with the airline, hotel, etc. individually.

Re: Why does one need a travel agent?
What about St. Lucia? That's where we are going. It's a Sandals resort. I can give you the name of the TA we worked with if you'd like. I know they have specials sometimes.
I don't usually use a TA, but for our honeymoon I opted to. We're heading to Hawaii and it was hard for me to try to get the inter island flights and stop over in Vegas b/4 coming back to NY. If you're just going to one location, I don't think you'll need a TA. There are a ton of helpful sites out there. I highly recommend my TA if you are want one. She is awesome! FM me if you want her info.

Re: Why does one need a travel agent?
My mom's a TA and I wouldn't book anything without her or online... if there's any confusion when you're away with your reservations, hotels, etc, internet companies are useless

You may want to do a cruise 'cus those are really affordable - you can get a cruise trip leaving Bayonne down the the Caribbean for as low as 600-1000 per person.
They are all-inclusive too (food & room if you are leaving from Bayonne) and so much fun and relaxing!
I'm doing a Mediterranean cruise next year for my honeymoon since I've already done the Bahama and Caribbean cruising. Where can you get an all-inclusive trip outside of the U.S. for under 1000 per person? I don't know where... even a trip to Florida or Canada is more expensive. :( And you still have to worry about food!
