I guess I am just way too nice and dont learn my lesson
My friend I lent her a book back in 2001 (I remember this because we were still working together and we were working out of NJ b/c of 9/11) and I havent gotten that book back. Its one of my favorite books.
Same friend I lent her a great book I got through a book club and this was 6 months ago. She hasnt returned it.
She works 1 block from me and I keep asking her for the book especially the one i lent her 6 months ago. She has yet to return them
I then went out and bought her the WW complete food guide book and I told her I am not giving it to her until she gives me my book back.
THis is also the same friend who got Married Aug 2001 and did NOT send Thank you's out to anyone.

Usually people don't return things because they forget to or they are too lazy. Your friend may have misplaced those things because you keep asking her and she hasn't returned them.

I think lending people stuff and expecting it back is something that an only child does, but no one else! Seriously! I used to lend stuff to my friend Melinda all the time (like clothes and stuff) and then I'd see it on her sisters! I'd tell her 'thats mine' and she'd always say, oh I think its so and so's...um, no, its MINE! Give it BACK!
I don't lend people things anymore!

Mel, I know how you feel. I lent my BF a sweater back in Feb. of 2000 and have not seen it since. She had wore it twice since I gave it to her. She has washed it everytime she has wore it, she keeps saying I have to give it back to you. She has also borrowed my nail polish and a book that she has not returned. Before she got married, she said that she could not find the items because they were packed. After she got married, she said that she could not find the items because she had no more to unpack everything and now she says that she can not unpack everything because the baby is coming. She also has my B-day gifts from my last two B-days and also my engagement gift that she keeps saying that she forgets to give us.

I don't know why when you lend people a book or a video they never give it back. Most of the time I don't care because I already read it but sometimes it is a really good book that I might want to read again.

I think I have the same answer as other people....

and its the same reason why you have to hunt people down in your wedding party for answers...or family members for guest addresses.....should I continue? LOL
