why everybody needs a crazy grandma:

So, my engagement party is coming up, and my grandma has been asking me about getting me a gift - she says she wants to get us something special that's a little different from registry stuff - something we'll really treasure.

Which is REALLY sweet, and appreciated, but I have no idea what to ask for, because everything I can think of is already on the registry.

But anyway... the thing is, I think she's confusing engagement party with bridal shower. She keeps calling it my shower... and worse... she keeps referencing... drumroll... NIGHTGOWNS.

My grandmother wants to buy me lingerie. Fancy, expensive, sexy lingerie.

Can you imagine having SEX in something your GRANDMOTHER gave you?

Yeah, me neither.

When I told her I really wasn't comfortable with that, she looks at me and goes 'Well, I'm a modern grandma!'

She's one crazy lady.

But it's definitely giving me a hell of a laugh.

Edited to add FH's response: He said something to the effect of 'Tell modern grandma that you want a new vibrator, dildo, and butt plug. She'll stop being a modern grandma fast!'

OMG...That's hilarious, but also a little disturbing!

I actually received lingerie from my FH's grandmother as an engagement gift. Apparently it's some sort of Italian/family tradition, but no one mentioned this to me...Imagine my surprise when I opened a silk, lacy nightie in front of my FH's entire family...

Don't feel bad. I couldn't have sex in any lingerie if my grandmother gave it to me. My Grandma loves to drink and do the chicken dance-we all have one! But she is the best!

i completely understand! not only is it tradition in my family for the mom of the bride to buy the lingerie (my family is from Italy)- she is supposed to buy one thing for each night of the honeymoon!

my mom assured me that only the one for the first night would be white and demure and the rest would be 'fun'!

fun for who?! These items may have to get 'lost' on the way to my HM, lol! my mom and i definitely DO NOT have this type of open relationship but I couldn't even IMAGINE if it was my grandma!

that is so cute!!!! Lingerie I wouldn't mind...but the extras your FH mentioned...I could see my grandma having an anurism.

OMG....my aunts gave me lingerie and made me open it in front of my granny...to make it worse, when i opened my granny's gifts, my cousin says: oh is that edible undies? grr..

then....the gifts my granny gave were: an eye mask for sleeping, a lavender filled eye mask and a bath pillow....all of which got lots of winks...way to go granny!

then the other day, FH's grandma returned for her trip here until the wedding...hands me a big pink VS bag....tells me it's from FH's aunt....eeek. she then begs me toopen it..i refused.

the next day she is quizzing me about whether or not i tried it on/out and if i modelled it...she had wanted me to model it the night before for her.....

what has happened to all the grannies out there?????

That is very funny....every family should have one like that!!! Tell her you would prefer a gift card to Victoria's Secret and you'll buy your own!! That way it's not so creepy!

I totally understand. One of my grandmas tries to talk to me about that and it just grosses me out! It just sounds wrong to me. My shower should be lots of fun with all the embarassing gifts I know I will get.
