Why is it...

Why is it...

that as soon as someone in hair and makeup hears you are a bride they charge you twice or three times more than anyone else? One of my bridesmaids called a place yesterday to make an appt for makeup the day of the wedding and the first question she was asked was: 'Are you a bride?' She said 'no' and then was put on hold to wait for pricing. After that, the quote was given at $40 (much lower than any quote I have been given). What is so different about putting makeup on her face or mine the day of the wedding. Are they going to do a lesser job if you are not a bride? I am really getting frustrated with these people who are trying to exploit me on my day just because they think they can get away with it. And every time one of us books someone like that, we do let them take us for a ride. Sorry, but I just needed to vent over this because this is the only thing I have left to book and its making me crazy!!!!

you are 100% correct! it's price gouging plain and simple. they know you need them. what are you going to do? not get your hair and makeup done, not get limos, etc. of course you will. and since we're all willing to pay these CRAZY prices, they get it.

I'm getting picked up and dropped off at the hall (we're getting married there too) and then picked up after the wedding and being dropped off at a hotel. total time spent in the limo will be 45 minutes or less. Price with tip? $325! can you say RIP OFF?

And... between hair and makeup trials and then for the day of, it will cost around $400! I am hoping to find a dress for not too much more than that!

CRAZY!!

yup, that's annoying. they used to say that it was much more involved to do the bride.

Dh's uncle owns a salon, so I used 3 of his hairdressers. They charged me $5 more than everyone else because of my headpiece and veil attachment. But, even they admitted that it's not always that much harder to do the bride than anyone else.

Plain & simple - because brides will pay it. Every bride wants a 'perfect' day and most will pay a premium for it.

Here's a suggestion I picked up in one of the wedding planning books I am reading: instead of telling them it's a wedding say it is a 'family function' or a 'family reunion'. This supposedly works for everything from catering to halls to limos, although I haven't tried it yet! If anyone has or does, let me know how it works! Good luck!!

That's true - and sad. It helps to have friends whoa re in any of these businesses.... one friend is a hair dresser - another a pro photographer - an my cousin is a minister. Makes things much easier.

I HATE WEDDINGS! I hate that people overcharge because you're a bride...I hate that there's a premium attached to the word 'wedding' and I HATE that people get away with it...having a not so good night!
