I registered for mikasa parchment which comes 8 settings in one box for $200. I thought this was affordable and makes a nice gift. I also added the gravy bowl ($55) and the platter ($90) and the coffeepot ($105) and a few other items. No one is buying any of it. Everyone was telling me when I registered, the China would be the first thing to go. Everyone wants to get you the china. My china, glasses and silverware are all still not bought.
The first things to go were my pots and pan set ($400), a hand mixer ($80), a chips and dip server ($40), and my knife block set ($170).
Those were not at all what I was expecting to get first. Why no china? Do you think it's too expensive for my guests?

I really wouldn't be concerned just yet. If your wedding is in July, I'm assuming you haven't had a shower yet? I'd wait to see what happens at your shower.

Re: Why is no one buying my china?
We are not having a shower. We are having an engagement party this month, and my mom is against having a shower, and since only 50 guests are invited to the wedding (mostly OOT), it would be weird to have a shower with less than 8 girls!! Hopefully someone will pick them up before the party this month. Or then hopefully if we get cash for the wedding, we can pick them up ourselves?

most places will do a registry completion thing, where you get a certain percentage off things on your registry that werent purchased

Re: Why is no one buying my china?
I noticed this weird thing with the last few showers I went to (plus judging from my own registry...): if you're still living at home or recently out of the house, I think people tend to buy you the practical items. If you've been on your own for years (like me), people tend to get the luxury items like china., regardless of the mix you registered for.
Do people know there won't be a shower? My guess is that maybe people are holding off on that for the shower, trying to get you the really useful things first. Maybe hint to your mom you really want the china stuff so she could spread the word around (she should also spread around that there won't be a shower).
Also, I don't think it's too expensive for close relatives to spend $200 but it is steep for more distant relatives/friends unless they chip in. But if that's what you want, keep it on. Maybe remove some of the accessories to up your chances at the place settings. You can always get them later ;)

Try not to registry stalk...it ruins the element of surprise! I didn't at all before my shower and it was fun to open up everything.
As for the china, is it possible it was purchased at other stores other than where you registered?
I had registered at BBB and NONE of my china was purchased from there. I got ten sets in all and they either came from Macy's or Bloomingdales.

Re: Why is no one buying my china?
I registered and received the same china for my shower... It really is gorgeous and afforable! But let me tell you, it is a HUGE HEAVY box... My mom stored it at her house and she regretted buying it so early on bc it just took up room that she doesnt have lol... China/crystal is normally a mom/other very close relative gift... and reg guests tend to stay away from those items... so that could be the reason

I didn't think about how heavy that would be!! I guess no one would want to cart that around.
