Why is training so expensive??

I called so many places and the prices ranged from 400-750$. All the local petco's don't have training until mid feb. (i need it now). I found one guy that I loved. He doesn't use food bc he says that using food is just training your dog to do tricks. He hones in on the pack instincts and make you the leader of the pack. he comes to your home once a week for 7 weeks. He lead the first few minutes of the training and then you take over. He stays for an hour or longer until you get it. He is gaurenteed for life. He says that he makes listening to you a command not an option. Your dog will always stop, come sit etc becuase your the pack leader.... GREAT RIGHT???? yeah 495$...... I just bought a house and am planning a wedding... anyone have any more solutions. I need help. Petsmart is not local either.

Did you try Happy Dog? Her eight week class is $275.

We just signed Golem up for classes at DogWorks in Holtsville. The eight week course was $180 I think, and they were highly recommended by another Rottie breeder here on LI. Only down side is, classes don't start until March! You mentioned that you need classes now, but if you want the number FM me and I'll pass it on :)

Sound like the guy we got for Baby....can't remember his name though...maybe Larry? All I remember was he always wore cowboy boots. lol. Anyway the prices are crazy but we were so frustrated we felt we had no choice. The training doesn't work though if you don't practice everyday. Then all your $$$ goes down the tube.

I saw the happy dog one. i might do it. The only down side is... it soo far away and it only touches on training.. the expenisve guy does it all.. So in the end it might be cheaper to just pay him rather than go through all the classes.. I guess I will just wait until I get desparate enough...
Oh yeah.. holtsville is way too far.. I think... where is holtsville.. eastern suffolk right?

That Larry guy... Did it work like he makes it sound? Was he is the Bellmore/wantaugh area? I can't remember what town but I know it was close to me.

Everything worked except the 'heel' command. It's mostly due to us not practicing that with her a lot plus our dog has selective hearing.

ETA: Sorry I don't remember where he was from. If I find the info I'll FM you.
