What is that 18% for if we still have to tip on top of it?

I am havign a small wedding (unser 100 people) so I was told to only tip the maitree'd and the bridal attendent $150.00-200 by my banquet manger.

$150.00 -200 isn't bad, but what's the 18% for?

the 18% goes to the rest of the staff... waiters, servers, bartenders etc...

Wait what is the difference between the MD and the BM . . . I thought they were the same person

The 18% is most likely a 'service charge' which is used to do things like pay the staff's salary, it is not a 'tip'.

My 18% is a gratuity not a service charge, I told my BM that I would rather them remove that and allow me to give it directly to the staff myself. I told them I would tip more than 18% if they let me do it on my own or exactly 18% if they are including it. There will be no Extra tipping involved. 18% of my total catering cost is plenty.

I would recommend checking with your RH - I've heard so many people say it's for different things.

We were told that our 18% service charge is solely the waitstaff's gratuity, so we won't be tipping them anything in addition to that. We then have a flat-rate 'house charge,' as well, that tips everyone else (except for the maitre'd and the suite attendant); so we'll just be taking care of the suite attendant & m'd that day...
