I was so happy Friday bc I taught a really difficult topic (permutations and combinations) this week and out of 3 classes, only 4 students failed and they failed in the 50's not even 10's or 20's. Yay, great teacher week, right?
So today, my friend from work called....I had been asked to take over Regents testing coordinator for my school. Key word: asked. I said ok, and started training on the sly. Meaning it's not official. I give up my lunch period which means between my professional duty I now only have 1 free period a day which is first. The job has to be posted with open application process. However, since I was asked and I am giving my free time to train the job will more than likely go to me. Apparently an entire department is pissed and is grieving it to the union because I am untenured. (The job was offered to me because I was already on testing committee and showed 'potential' for the position)
The kicker..I've been offered another comp time position by the principal but she's asked me to not tell anyone until she secures funding and she wants me to continue the testing for the time being. So all these people are hating me for getting a job that I have not gotten yet and will not get. How do I even face these people tomorrow? And we have PD on Tuesday which means an entire day of death stares!!
Any suggestions?

Re: Why....(sorry long)
I am sorry for your siutation. I hate school politics! (I am a math teacher too).
Are you sure that the other teachers are angry with you? Or is it just the situation? Either way, it is not your fault. I know its much easier said than done, but don't let them bother you. I find that a lot of people get overly upset about things that they shouldn't.
What does having tenure have to do with being offered a position anyway?
And congrats on your successful lesson! I know combinations and permutations can be rough.

Christine, you didn't do anything wrong!!!!! Just stay sweet, and perhaps their eyes will be open to the fact that you had nothing to do with the decision. Besides, who of them, wouldn't want to be in your shoes, and perhaps they need to consider how they would feel, if their fellow teachers got mad at them. Mary MOB

Thanks...apparently it started out about the situation and then evolved into how I got the position. As in, who'd I do/kiss *** type thing.
Whatever, I'm really upset about it bc these are the people who chat with me everyday.
Where do you teach?

Keep your chin up, hon!! You're right, teaching math is difficult, and your fellow teachers should be patting you on the back, and supporting you!! Mary MOB
