Wierd Pain

Wierd Pain

Last month I posted that I had a wierd pain in my side. I went to the family doctor and he didnt know what it was. He told me I could of pulled a stomach muscle, and that I should take Tylenol and apply heat to it. So I did that and the pain is still there. It doesnt hurt all the time, just sometimes....Like right now it hurts....and Its more of a burning pain...and sometimes it tingles. It is wierd.

I made an appointment to go to my gastrologist, because I heard there is a possibility that it could be my stomach. I am freaking out cause I dont know whats causing it.

Has anyone here ever experienced this or have any idea as to what it could be from?

Thanks,
Scott

hmm...the burning and tingling seems to me like a pulled muscle etc.. but i guess the best thing to do is get a 2nd opinion. Feel better!

Would a pulled muscle still hurt after 3 weeks though?

It certainly can! If you pulled it really bad and/or it's a spot that gets constant use, it could last that long. Muscle spasms and pinched nerves can take longer to go away. I wouldn't worry yourself too much because it's only going to make it worse. Feel better!

I am also going to ask if you really are as stressed as your avatar says, because if so, stress could be causing the pain. That happens to me!

Re: Wierd Pain

Yeah I am stressed. I have alot going on right now with the wedding coming in less than 2 months, trying to get Danielle and I's apartment ready, dealing with work and worrying if my parents are going to be able to sell their house in time for them to close on their condo....

I guess that would have alot to do with it. I hope this doctor can tell me what this is....It is driving me crazy...If I did pull a muscle, I think i know when I did it. Last month, I picked up this huge a/c from the garage that was being picked up by special pickup...I think the pain started right after that.

Do you think I should bother going to the gastrologist then? I dont want to waste my time....

Re: Wierd Pain

In my personal, honest opinion, it sounds like a combo of stress and a pulled muscle. Now, I am not a doctor, but I am a chronic stress-ball with chronic pulled muscles. I know that stress can make your body do wacky things. I was sick more this year than ever before because of stress. I had a point during the school year where I was throwing up because I was THAT stressed out........now that was TMI, but my point is that you need to relax! If you relax a little, I think you will find that you will feel better. I don't think the gastrologist is even the right kind of doctor to go to if it's a pain in you muscle. If it will make you feel better to hear his/her opinion, then go, if you kind of know in the back of your mind that it's just a combo of lifting the a/c and all the other things going on, then I wouldn't go. HTH!

Re: Wierd Pain

Yeah you are right. I also have been doing alot this past month....Lifting and painting and stuff so im sure that has made the pain worse. I havent had the time to rest, and I probably wont have the time to rest until the honeymoon. We have to finish getting the apartment ready.

I am alergic to Ibuprofin, and Tylenol just isnt doing the trick. Does anyone know of any type of over the counter pain reliever I can take?
Thanks,
Scott

Re: Wierd Pain

Can you take aleve? That's what I usually take because it has naproxen in it (which is what relieves muscle spasms.) Also, if you haven't tried, what about putting Bengay on the area? They have the one that doesn't smell. I put it on my shoulder when the muscles get all spasm-y and it works pretty well. Also, those heat patches. I know it's hot out, but they really do work. Re: Wierd Pain

I have been using Mineral Ice. Is that doing anything? I put it on at night.

Will this make it go away totally, or will this only treat it?

Re: Wierd Pain

I've never used mineral ice. I have Bengay that I carry in my bag so that I can use it when I need it during the day. I have a bad shoulder injury related to playing the flute (yes, the flute), and when I play too long during the day or when I sit at the piano to play for work, my muscles spasm really bad, so the Bengay usually works.

Well, for me, it will never go away completely because of the fact that I am consistently re-injuring myself everytime I play my instrument, but it's supposed to stop the muscles from spasming, which, IMO, means it went away. It's not just a pain killer, if that's what you're asking.

Re: Wierd Pain

If they spasm, is that what causes the burning....tingling pain feeling?

I called the doctor and i spoke to the secretary, and she told me to come in anyway...because the doctor is an Internist too. So he will be able to prescribe me something if it is a muscle pull.

I looked at Aleves website and it kind of scared me...because i am alergic to ibuprofin. It says that it doesnt contain it but not to take Aleve if you have ever experienced and type of side effects from pain reliefe medicine, and I have...So I dont know if I should take it.

Re: Wierd Pain

I would not take it, then. So go see the doctor because I'm sure he can prescribe muscle relaxers or something. You will be ok, though!

Thanks so much for the advice.

Heating pads are good for it right?
