Will craft glue ruin my cardstock or photos over time?

Will craft glue ruin my cardstock or photos over time?

DH and I are making our parents albums and I found a nice 8x8 album with plastic inserts. We are planning on slipping decorative cardstock in the plastic sleeves and then slipping in each 5x7.

I think that the photos might slide around though and was considering affixing them to the cardstock somehow.

Since we already have plastic sleeves, I think photo corners would look silly. I was thinking of craft glue on the back of each photo but would that ruin the paper or the photo over time?

Maybe I should try to find 8x8 black pages and use photo corners instead of using the plastic? Any thoughts or suggestions?

I don't know about the glue, but you can get clear photo corners so you don't have to switch to black paper. They aren't too noticeable.

if you want something that's gonna last forever, it needs to be archival - both the glue and the paper. over time the color of the paper will fade and it'll get brittle and the acid in the glue and paper will eat away at your pictures. rubber cement is good and holds solid when you use it right (paint it on the object and where you want to glue it, let it get tacky and stick them together, make sure you place it right b/c it will not come up). if you go to pearl paint or another art/art framing store and ask for archival paper (there are some books that are archival and a lot of loose paper like reeves bfk, etc.) and glue they'll point you in the right direction. you may even be able to find a list online. i'll look around for you.

be careful...i have heard that rubber cement (as much as i love it) is not archival

Make sure the papers and the glues are acid/iignin free .... that is what is said to be the most archival safe
