Re: Will the Catholic Church marry couples during the Lent Season?

I got married during Lent last year...a Friday no less. So did my sister in 2000.

Yes, but there are restrictions (from what I hear). My friend was married during Lent last year and was told she could not decorate the alter with flowers or anything.

I got married on a Sunday in Lent. We didn't decorate the altar so i am not sure if you could, probably not. Our church was beautiful without it!

We're getting married during lent. The church isn't decorated at all so we have to supply altar arrangements. Other than that, we have no restrictions.

Re: Will the Catholic Church marry couples during the Lent Season?

It depends on the Pastor of the church. Where I got married it was a big NO NO...even the priest who was going to marry us wouldn't perform the ceremony during lent.

I was under the impression that you could get married during lent, just not easter weekend. Which is why my good friday wedding took place at Flowerfield.

Re: Will the Catholic Church marry couples during the Lent Season?

most will.

it used to be a long time ago that you couldn't.

but each church makes their own decisions about the extent to which you can do flowers, etc.

talk to your priest about it!

Re: Will the Catholic Church marry couples during the Lent Season?

I'm getting married in March on a Friday during Lent. My church ( Episcopal) would not allow any weddings during Lent.

FH's church is Roman Catholic and they had no problems with it....We cannot decorate the church with a lot of flowers due to it being a mourning period so to speak...but thats it...
We are even having the Deacon perfomring the ceremony say a blessing about allowing people to eat meat at the wedding, so those who people uncomfortable with it, will if they then feel better after the church says its ok..
