i had this - what i thought was brilliant - plan to use nauticul/iron lanterns scattered with votives and jangle shells as centerpieces (reception's at a beach club) and then to have a lighting specialist come in and hang the big white rice paper lanterns over the dance floor. but then my friend said it would clash, and now i'm utterly confused. what do you guys think? i'd love to hear your unbiased - and honest - opinions about whether this would look great or totally wrong.
i'm attaching two pics - one of the table lanterns, and one of the sort of hanging lantern effect i'm going after.

PS : did you realize how expensive event lighting is for weddings? wow!
I don't think it would clash at all. I think it would look nice.....

The only thing I think might clash is the contrast in colors. For example if your room looks like the one with the hanging lanterns - very white and light - and you have the dark pieces on the table as centerpieces, it might be distracting. I'm just trying to visualize dark pieces on the tables in your first pictures. I don't think that the two items actually clash. just depends on what your room will look like. HTH

If you look in Wedding Star Magazine, or go online, they sell lanterns that are white.

I don't think it will clash, because those lamps also can have an asian feel, due to the 'pagoda' like shape. With the rice paper lanterns, it might give off an asian feel, which I love, and I think it will look great.
