ALOT of guests at our wedding are smokers - groom VERY MUCH included. The Carlyle has a beautiful patio so I figures people would just go out there if needed but is it worth it to think about letting them smoke indoors?

Do you have that option? Most places say No because it's NY state law. I say let them go on the patio, they are probably used to having to do this anyway.

NO WAY! I see what you're saying b/c I have some smokers in my fam too. But seriously you need to consider the non-smokers feelings.

I thought that it was against the law also. But maybe it's different at a private party.
I wouldn't allow it anyway. I think that smokers are used to it and will understand. I used to smoke, and I never got bent out of shape over it.
However, as a side note, in the early 90's I worked at the PJCC in catering for one summer. It was still pretty new for and to ban smoking inside the CH. I actually saw people take money out of the envelope! But times have changed, and I CANNOT image that happening now.

No. I do not like cigarette smoke and the hall does not allow it on the premises. All smoking has to be done outside.

WOW! That is aweful. I guess people are use to it now but to a smoker back than, having to be forced to relocate outdoors must have really ruined their night....

I know. At the time I vowed that I would have smoking at my wedding because of that. (And my mother is one of the most vehement anti-smokers there are.) But NOW, I would not allow it, even if the hall did.

Re: Will you allow smoking indoors?
on a similar note, how would you feel as a guest if you tried to smoke right oustide the main entrance to the hall and there was sign that said 'smoking on the back patio please'? Would that tick you off?
REason i am asking is that everytime FH and I go to the Carlyle, we see hords of people standing outside the front door puffing away when there is so much room (and you could be closer to the ballroom) to smoke out back on the patio. FH does not want people to linger out front b/c he will be smoking out back and he wants everyone to stray nearby. Is it rude to tell a smoker where oustide they can smoke? Weird request I know.....
