if you're getting married by an officiant who works for themselves... i especially wouldn't.
then again, i'm in the 'the tipping is out of control' camp. you don't have to tip for everything. you're already PAYING them. the point to tipping is to commend an excellent job... so unless they like blow you away with some above and beyond actions ... ahhh. don't get me going on this lol

ITA! He's an officiant who works for himself...so I have been going back and forth over it. FH is the cheapest man on the planet...so he is against it.

I don't know... the guy is making $400 for 30 minutes of work for something he could probably do in his sleep... And really they could probably do 3 or 4 weddings a day. I go back and forth on it a lot.

We didn't tip our officiant. We paid him $575, all of which went directly in his pocket

FH already feels we are paying too much, so we'll be going with this option.

We had an officiant. It was her own business and she already charged a lot, so no.

Re: Will you/did you tip your officiant?
We were just talking about this last night...after my 'contribution' to the church of at least $250, and after I pay both organist and singer $150 each, and altar boys..MY ENVELOPE FROM CHURCH states 'it is customary to give the priest officiating...blah,blah,blah'..we are giving him $50
