window treatments for extra wide windows

i just read the post about the curtain rod for extra wide windows (which i've been looking for forever, thanks for the suggestions!) & i was wondering what kind of window treatments you use for a window so wide...

i would have to buy eight or so panels for each of my superwide windows (which seems like a bit much), but i don't really like the valance look on top with the panels just on the sides, so i'm not really sure what to do.

in the meantime, i have no curtains on my front living room window or back dining room window.

any suggestions?

Are your curtains for function or purely decorative?

We have a 14' window, but we don't need functioning window treatments. So I only purchased 4 drapes for that window (2 on each side) along with rope & tassel tie backs.

jenny- are they tied back all the time??

i'd like something to cover the window for at night ideally, but i think it just may be too wide for that.
