Re: windows xp
do you have anti-virus software installed (Norton, McAfee)?
do you have add blockers like Ad-aware and Spybot installed?
i had all sorts of problems with my new computer running XP that i never had before...these programs helped me analyze what was going on...

Re: windows xp
yeah we have norton, but it didn't find any viruses, and we just installed ad-aware, but it doesn't seem to have helped yet. also the sound has disappeared even though our speakers are plugged in and turned on. hmm........

Re: windows xp
it says- generic host process for win32 services has encountered a problem and needs to close. we are sorry for the inconvenience. if you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost.
oddly enough the sound works as long as you don't click close in the error box.

I would start by reading through some of these threads to see if any other symptoms match yours... Some here claim it's a virus, some had driver problems... Hope this helps!

Re: windows xp
Do you download music? Do you have Kazaa Installed on your computer?
You need to install spybot on your computer. Adware is good, but spybot is better. Spybot will remove alot more of the items that might be in your registry. These items might be causing you problems. You may have a Virus.
Have you updated your virus protection? If not, update it, and then run it?
Do you have a Firewall installed on your pc? If not you need to install a program like Zone Alarm.
Zone Alarm File Download - Save to disk - ok. Then run the program. If this doesnt work, let me know.
If you are still having problems, let me know. My friend fixes computers. He can fix yours. Scott

Re: windows xp
If you open up your task manager you should see multiple svchost.exe running. Each one has a seperate host process for another service. If so then the following will give you a better understanding.
thanks guys. i found some good info in the help thread that september2004 posted so i'll try all that stuff tonight and see what happens.

Re: windows xp
okay we're pretty sure it's not the msblast virus/worm. we've got several of those svchost things running and no we haven't downloaded any patches. also we already had zonealarm.
we think it may have to do with an old printer driver as some people have said this was the problem for them. does anyone know how to delete old drivers?
