WINDWATCH BRIDES!

WINDWATCH BRIDES!

I don't know if anyone else is getting married at the Windwatch Resort & Hamlet Golf Club (now Hyatt Regency) but I figured I would post this.

I am getting married there this May. I booked my wedding with them in December 2003. This past summer I read about Hyatt being sold in the newspaper- never was notified by my wedding coordinator- I had to call her. I was told no changes were being done to the place except to the rooms. Well, guess what? Renovations started today and will not be complete until the end of June! I was FURIOUS. They ensure me it will not affect my wedding and renovations in May are only going to be done in hotel rooms on isolated floors. OK.

I have guests who have called this week to book reservations for the night of the wedding and they are being told 'major renovations are being done at this facility during your stay, would you still like to book?' I wanted to cry- it doesn't exactly sound nice to guests. I called and was assured again that it will only be isolated areas and my guests won't even be able to access the area and it will not disturb anyone. I don't know, I am still nervous. I mean, my parents are putting so much into this emotionally and financially and I don't want it to look like crap or cheap, ya know? My FILs decide they want to book a suite for the night- well, guess what? NO suits except mine will be accessible at that time due to RENOVATIONS. I'm so MAD!

I was out there the night of February 19th. My FI's fire department had a dinner there. I can't really complain- everything was good. The cocktail hour, the food, the service, very good. Whenever I got up from the table and came back, my chair was always pushed in, napkin folded, water glass refilled, etc. So, that was very good.

The hotel room was very nice as well.

I think thats about it- if I think of anything else, I will definitely post! I am starting to crash now, lol Time for bed.

Are you dealing with Doris? Believe me - she won't let ANY renovations spoil your day. I spend quite a bit of time at the hotel for work (on the weekends- so I see all the weddings) and I have personally SEEN her ripping the maintenance guys a new one when they had any construction crap out on the day of an event. And they had everthing in perfect order by the weekends.

I signed on at the Wyndham right before the sale - it was very touch and go (which might explain why she didn't tell you right away)- I found out through the newspaper too.

Talk to Doris and explain your concerns about the res people telling your guests about 'major renovations' - I'm sure she'll take care of it.

I don't blame you for being upset!! Speak to this woman Doris & keep on her about it. I'm sure it will be fine - plus alot of times when they are at the tail end of renovations, it's not as much kaos as it is in the beginning. Who knows, maybe they will finish earlier. But definitely ease your mind & keep on them.

I am too getting married at the hyatt. I booked when it was wyndham and I also found out about the sale through newsday. At first I was upset like you were. But the reason why we didnt know before is for investor purposes. They couldnt let people know of the sale because that could be like insider trading. Until it became public no one really knew.
As for renovations....the 800 number that you call to make your reservation is in some other state like Alabama so all they know is that the hotel is being renovated...they probably dont know the extent or the details.
I know the worry and nervousness you are feeling because I felt it too, but think aobut it. This is a hyatt resort, do you really think they want to make you walk away with a bad taste in your mouth? They will do right by you. And address your concerns to you banquet manager. Besides things could be worse....at least you know the hyatt wont up and disappear like some banquet halls.
I hope I helped ease your mind.

Re: WINDWATCH BRIDES!

Just an FYI - the Hyatt Windwatch Hotel is not affiliated with the Hamlet Windwatch Golf and Country Club. I'm getting married at the Hamlet and this post totally freaked me out

Well, thank you for the correction. I wasnt trying to be snotty at all. In the first post it says 'Windwatch Resort & Hamlet Golf Club'. All of the material I have from the Hamlet state that they are not affiliated with the hotel. I just wanted to give the girls who are getting married at the Hamlet next door a heads up because I was confused at first.

Your response didn't seem snotty to me. You were right that the post did mention Hamlet. So many people confuse the Hamlet with the hotel. When I tell people where our reception is most people think it's the hotel. But you're right - they are entirely seperate entities. I guess because they both have Wind Watch in the title it can be confusing. Sometimes I find it annoying to have to explain it to people. I'm sure the hotel is just as beautiful as the Hamlet though. We're all very lucky to be having our receptions at such a beautiful spot on Long Island!

What I thought was a tad snotty was when you said it freaked you out....which sounded to me like it meant that you were glad you didnt book the hotel. Maybe I took it the wrong way!

Re: WINDWATCH BRIDES!

What I meant was when I said I was freaked out, I thought that the Hamlet was having the renovations and I hadnt heard a thing about that. I've been to the hotel and think its very very nice. Since our wedding ends around 7pm, we're hoping to continue the fun in the bar next door.
