wine tasting bday party question

Hi- I havent posted in a while but I have a question that I thought I'd ask you ladies. I want to have a wine tasting party out east for my bday. We can get a good price on a limo through my MIL and probably have like 16 people or so come. My question is this- we should be the ones to foot the bill right? Like obviously it would be classless to ask people for money for anything. Should I just have everyone pay for their own tastings at the wineries? I was planning on footing the bill for the limo and lunch, etc. Is this a stupid idea? Has anyone done this before? Thanks!

I love the wineries so I think this is an awesome idea. And if you're really planning on paying for lunch and the limo then expecting people to pay for their own tastings isn't too much to ask, i think it's perfectly reasonable!!!

ITA - I would just send out an email with all the info so that no one is blindsided on the day of.

If you have the $$$ and you're getting a good deal on the limo then that's really nice of you to pay for everything. I don't think that you HAVE to pay for the whole thing- but it also depends on your group of friends... do they usually pay for things like that (like if it was their b-day, would they pay or expect everyone to chip in?)

I had a wine tour for my b-day 2 years ago and I didn't do that. I planned it all, but when I invited people I told them the price and it was up to them if they wanted to go and pay. I booked w/ a company that includes the limo, lunch and tastings at 3 wineries. FH and I bought bagels for everyone in the morning before we left, and we also had a bbq at FH's friend's house afterwards (FH paid for almost all of the food since we were using his friend's backyard).

I have been on 2 more wine tours since then where it was the same thing- the person planning it told us the cost up front, and we paid... although the last time lunch wasn't included in the price so my cousin's wife made tons of gourmet mini sandwiches and then brought cheese/crackers/pretzels etc. for everyone.
