hello...first time poster here. i am getting married 12/8/07 at Tavern on the Green and I am having such a hard time trying to figure out how to do my 'winter wonderland' theme. the room is the terrace pavillion with mirrors and glass all over. I know I just want white, silver and blues. i don't know how to do this and I am freaking out. its going to be small too...80 ppl. I dont even have a dress yet. i live in Key West and am stranded until I can come up to the city to talk with the people over at Tavern. anyone have any decor ideas? favor ideas? ANYTHING will be helpful right now. thanks, amy

Re: Winter wedding
I've seen brides do the snowflake theme & it's soooo pretty..usually in blues, whites & silvers. I'd do an ornament for my favor if I were getting married in December too.

Re: Winter wedding
thank you. someone mentioned a Swarvoski crystal snowflake ornament...which would be gorgeous....but they are $40/each. is that a lot for favors? I mean, I have been to weddings where you get little picture frames and I have been to weddings where I have walked out with espresso makers. what is the norm?

Re: Winter wedding
I think that's alot for favors---check lenox! As for flowers-----a touch of red hollyberry in the mix or euchlyptus (sp?) would be wonderful!

Re: Winter wedding
Hi! Welcome to the board and congratulations! I am also a winter bride. I am getting married December 29th. My colors are red, gold and ivory. I think light blue and silver will look really pretty in the room you chose. I haven't planned too much decor wise yet. I am thinking snow globes for the table numbers, and wrapping the favors up like presents and adding each guest table number to it so it has a few different functions. I will also be decorating with some gold Christmas balls on the tables. I can't think of anything else off hand but feel free to FM me if you need help or ideas.

Re: Winter wedding
i'm jealous...I wanted a fall wedding- and I'm having a quazi-fall weddin cause technically its still summer...but I'm starting to fall in love with the frosty, icy, crystal look...
I think I'm going to have to plan my sister's wedding and live out all my winter wedding fantasies...
good luck- its going to be beautiful no matter what you do...especially at tavern on the green. If you have the $$$ y0ou could always hire a wedding coordinator

Re: Winter wedding
I'm also a December wedding----I chose to stay away from the snowflake theme though. My girls will be in Navy and gold- flowers will be all white with some red holly berry and greenery I'm using pine cones as place card holders. There will be a christmas tree decorated favors---lenox ornaments! That is all I have for now!

Re: Winter wedding
You guys have all been a great help, thank you!! My person at Tavern on the Green is going to help me out with ideas, its just hard being stuck on this island and not being able to be around real world stuff. I know, boo hoo me, I'm sure you are all saying...I live on a tropical island and I'm complaining. LOL It does suck though when you are planning a big event, like, your wedding, and leaving most of it up to people who are 1300 miles away.
The lenox great idea...some of the stuff is really beautiful. I'm still looking though..I just haven't found anything else that has caught my eye like the Swarovski crystal snowflakes. I know they are expensive, but I am cutting back on the flowers, and a few corners here and there, to do some really nice things. Still up in the air. Having the favor wrapped and used as a table setting is a great idea.
As far as my dress and a fur coat/wrap...still no clue. It won't be real fur, as I am one of those nutty 'PETA people'. I finally made arrangements to fly up the weekend of May 4th to look at dresses with my mom. As soon as I get the dress I'll look for a nice wrap. Not sure if I want to sport a faux fur trimmed coat, or just find a coat to match the dress. I have NO clue what to expect when I walk through the doors of some of these places.
i kind of want to do a 1940's glam look. Very classic, traditional...not too much, but just enough. any ideas of places to visit in NYC when I come up? I found Pricilla of Boston in my magazines seemed to fall under that category. People keep telling me to go to some place called RK Bridal. I've never heard of it, and am a little nervous that it is like the bridal equivalent of Marshalls...where the stuff is a lot less expensive, but there are minor flaws..like one sleeve is longer than the other? :) anyone know about this place?
You have all been such a big help. thank you!

Re: Winter wedding
YAY! Another date twin (I think we're now triplets, actually!). WELCOME.
We are having our reception at a place on the water, so we are trying to combine our wedding into a winter/Christmas/nautical themed event... We are still putting everything together too (I JUST ordered my dress about 12 hrs ago, and I spent the weekend looking at photographers), and it's definitely doable, so don't worry about not having everything down yet.
I just thought of this idea today, and its more along the lines of a Christmastime theme, but I'm thinking about getting English Christmas crackers and having our place cards attached to those, either as a card on a ribbon, or as a label on the cracker.
I've also seen people use tiny snow globes as both place cards (doubles as your favor) and table numbers. You could also probably find beautiful glass icicle ornaments that could be a favor. I'm not sure what your budget is like, but for me, a $40 favor would be just too much.
For dresses, check out Paloma Blanca . That is who makes my dress and they have several dresses that may fit what you are looking for. They are also not as expensive as Priscilla of Boston. They are just beautiful. I'm not sure who carries them in NYC, but you may be able to find a shop where you are (FL, I think you said) and try some on. Definitely do not wait much longer, b/c it takes 6 to 8 months to get a dress in after you have ordered it.
I'll try to see if I can remember some of the other winter themed ideas I've seen and will send to you and refresh this post.
Welcome again!

Re: Winter wedding
If we weren't getting married in the summer, we would have done a winter wedding with those exact colors... awesome choice!
I really think the iced branches look gorgeous.
For centerpieces I probably would have done something with christmas tree balls or something and candles...lots of candles.
