Winthrop - cost of private room?
Does anyone know how much it costs to have a private room at Winthrop after you deliver (if you can get one)? Thanks!

I know there aren't too many private rooms in the post-partum unit in Winthrop so one might not be available should you request one. I'm not sure of the maternity but I know the cost of a private room on a medical floor is about 2x the amount of the semi-private rooms. So for example if it's $600 a night in a regular room it's about $1100-$1200 for a private room and it's probably and expense you have to lay out insurance will only cover the cost of a regular room. Don't quote me on the cost though that's just an estimate.
I have no idea about Winthrop, but I know it was $150/night at St. Charles, so I don't know that it could be THAT much of a difference.
I heard $200 extra but I want to find out. Maybe I will akl when I go to orientation next week.
I just called ...$220 a night @ Winthrop.
I had a private room...worth every single penny if you have to pay a bit extra for it.
I had a c/s at Winthrop and requested a private room upon being admitted. Since I was delivering at 40 weeks after the blackout of August 2003, the first night I couldn't get one, but was moved to a private room the next day. $220 per night and not covered by insurance. Worth every single penny of it! I had a roomie the first night and it was tough. So glad I got the private room for the remainder of my stay.
Thanks girls - I think $220 is worth it too. I was on the maternity floor with my kidney infection a couple of weeks ago - I had a roommate the first night that kept me up the entire night - I did not sleep for 5 minutes and was so miserable. I'm thinking I'll need all of the sleep I can get after popping out this little one.
I spent 4 days at St Charles and never had a roomie! I guess I was lucky!
I consider myself lucky too that the hospital i delived at in westchester wsa ALL private rooms..
My hospital (in Orange Cty) has all private rooms too.
