WISDOM TEETH

WISDOM TEETH

I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth extracted last Friday. It's Tuesday and a portion of my lip and chin are still totally numb. I went back to the Dr. today for him to check out the situation. He said that I may have this numbness for a couple of weeks and maybe even months!!!! Has anyone ever heard of this? The Dr. said that he doesn't think it will be permanant, but that it will take time to regain sensation. Is this common?

Hmmmmmm, I had all 4 pulled and my numbing went down the next day or so. The swelling lasted a while, but never experienced what you are experiencing

It's definitely possible. Your mouth just went through a trauma. I'd continue to ice it to make the swelling go down and maybe then it will lessen the numbing feeling.

Im so sorry to hear this... THAT is why I REFUSE to have mine pulled

But almost EVERYONE I know has had theirs removed and are FINE. It takes a while, but it DOES get better. Hang in there. And remember- it couldve been worse, you couldve had them pulled a week before your WEDDING! AAAAGH!

It should get better...what probably happened is that there was some damage to the nerves that relay sensation in your mouth during the procedure...i think this is actually pretty common in oral surgery. Nerves take awhile to recover and repair themselves, but they WILL recover...hang in there!

Re: WISDOM TEETH

Thanks ladies!

The problem was one of the bottom teeth that was impacted basically on top of the nerve. When the Dr. checked it he said that he thinks it will be fine. I have just worked myself up reading information on different websites. On the upside I do have a slight sensations and sharp pains shooting thru the area. I'm taking this as a good sign that the feeling is working it's way back

Ihave heard of it! When I went to the surgeon to have mine pulled he said that 1 in 100,00 (I think) get numbness longer then average. Its because the nerves in your jaw are pobably swollen-Good Luck- for it to go away soon!

Re: WISDOM TEETH

I had all 4 pulled at once back in May and that was something the doctor told me before the surgery. Don't panic. It didn't happen to me, but the doctor said sometimes ppl are sensitive to it... If it persists for more than like 2wks than I might talk to the doctor again.

Re: WISDOM TEETH

I had 2 pulled at once, and then I only did 1 tooth the 2nd time......both times I experienced major swelling & bruising on my face for up to a week!!! It was horrible!! The 2nd time was worse, for some reason. I think some people just react that way. Were your wisdom teeth impacted? Mine were, and I think that might have made it worse.

Hope your better soon!! I doubt it would take months to heal....hang in there!! Keep us posted!
