Some info I got from another LIW girl who was looking into DOC's.

-Coordinator plus an assistant starting 2 hours prior to photographer’s arrival on your wedding day -Coordinator will attend your final vendor appointments (reception hall and florist). -Coordinator and assistant will attend Rehearsal -Distribution of gratuities (if requested). -Guest assistance, attention to special requests and needs. -Oversee the setup of favors, place cards, menu cards, centerpieces and vendors. -Assistance with the guest list and seating chart. -Assist the bride, bridal party and groom, if needed, with getting dressed.

Re: With all this DOC talk.....
First off, a Day of Coordinator should be by your side from the very beginning of your day, until the very end! As a Day of Coordinator my day begins at your house, the Bride and does not end until I put you and your husband in a car and send you off on your honeymoon. I am the first vendor to arrive and the last vendor to leave.
During your entire affair I make sure that everything goes smoothly. From the most minute detail to the details that no one would think about, I'm on them. From your flowers to your place cards, from spoons, knives and fork to napkins, menues, programs, those are a few of the little details I take care of. Beginning with your ceremony and then moving to your cocktail hour, and making sure your photographer, florist, videographer, DJ or Band, catering hall, etc. set up appropriately and arrive on a timely fashion. I guarantee that a proper timeline is followed and that your entire affair goes smoothly. I will coordinate with your videographer, photographer, limos, DJ and/or Band, reception site and florist to make sure that everything is done according to your wishes. Two weeks and including the week of your wedding I will confirm all your vendors, which includes time of arrival and departure and what their duties will be. I will also attend your rehearsal so that I can meet all your important people (bridal party, parents, etc.). I will coordinate with your photographer and guarantee you that no important picture will be left out. I will coordinate all the dances, the cake cutting, the bouquet toss, etc. and also make sure that no one leaves during these important events of your day. I will also take care of all your final payments and/or tips for the evening so that you do not have to deal with last minute issues with vendors and I carry a complete Emergency Kit for any possible emergency we might find ourselves in. Of course there is so many other details that I could go on and on. We will cover all of them during our meeting.

Re: With all this DOC talk.....
the RH/BM will do most of what the DOC does but they DOC does do some additional stuff that is nice but is all stuff you can do. I would love a DOC and even priced some but I compromised with FH and said I would save money and not get a DOC since its not a necessity so we could use that money for something else.

Re: With all this DOC talk.....
I asked my event coordinator at my RH if i needed one and he said that everything a DOC does he will do for me. I am getting ready there, married there, photos will be taken on premises, etc so i will not need someone to coordinate different locations and remaining on schedule from that perspective.
you should ask your RH if they recommend you hiring a DOC and see what services they will provide for you.

Re: With all this DOC talk.....
I was on the fence originally about getting a DOC, but after winning the services of Fairy Tale Events, I am realizing how lucky I was to get it.
I have been in a wedding at my Reception Hall, and while the MD and BA do a fantastic job, they are focused on making things run smoothly, but not all the details.
For me, its going to be peace of mind that she is there. She and I have already been going back and forth, and while I know a lot (I have coordinated other weddings), she is helping more than I thought possible. I will be trying to upgrade to a full day of.
I like knowing that someone will be there to help make sure the set up is going well, troubleshooting any issues that come up, helping with set up, distributing tips, making sure I stay sane.
While the MD and BA, as I said, do a lot, the BA is supposed to be with the bride at all times, and the MD is making sure that food is cooked, people know where to go, etc.
They are not looking to make sure 'ok, Bride and Groom said their cake looks like this, that is not their cake, there has been a mix up.' They are not there with an emergency kit in case something spills or rips. They are not able to help you before your wedding with calculating out tips, suggestions for rehearsal dinners, and advice going into your wedding day.
As I said, at first, I wasn't going to get a DOC, as I figured I could do it all myself, or the Hall could do it. Then I was in a wedding, saw what the people at the hall did, and what I as a bridesmaid wound up having to do because they couldn't get around to it (like, getting purses out of the ceremony room, making sure the brides cape was picked up and taken back to the bridal suite). Then I started thinking about a DOC, otherwise my MOH and I would have been running around ragged trying to do it all ourselves.
In my opinion, if you can afford one, I would recommend it. Check out Fairy Tale events, they had the most reasonable prices that I have found.

Re: With all this DOC talk.....
I didnt meet with any DOCs, just talked to them over the phone and asked certain questions...I shopped around using referrals and online web sites (and of course, LIW).
I booked a DOC more for my peace of mind and just in case my bridal attendant doesn't do a great job..Also, to have my parents enjoy the reception because my mom tends to be very fussy about doing stuff to my dress, to me, etc and I just want her to sit back and relax and enjoy the day as well.
