Ahhh my MOH was the same way. Naturally since she sucks she didn't prepare anything (that's probably not the best way to instill confidence) so I told her keep it short and sweet. So all she said was congratulations love you both so happy for you cheers! And it was fine!

As long as your best man makes a speech, I don't think anyone will even realize she's not. I think MOH's making a speech is a semi-new thing. Not sure my sister will make one at mine, either. She's pretty shy.

ITA with this

I have 2 MOHs and they're both 'gung ho' about making speeches but i'll believe it when i see it. anxiety gets the best of us!

LOL I was just about to say this. I can empathize with your MOH because I have public speaking anxiety but I recently had to do a maid of honor speech and I ****** it up. Doing the speech for my best friend was more important than my stupid anxiety. I guess you can't force her but it sounds like it's more the anticipation anxiety that's getting to her. Is she writing it down? If she's reading from a paper that should cut the anxiety down a lot.

Either way...i'm sorry that you have to worry about this two days before your wedding!! not cool.

i think this is fine. I've seen MOHs that make really long speeches and i would say most of the time, they bomb. i think a lot try to be funny and it never works out taht way. short and to the point! let the best man do all the work! sorry amanda

I was the same way at my Sister's luckily she never asked me to do a speech plus the best man had a song and dance and power point presentation to go along with his speech so I would have been put to shame anyway!

Some people get really nervous infront of crowds maybe ask if she wants someone to stand with her?

Random question- but when does everyone do speeches? During the wedding, during the rehearsal dinner? I thought i knew but now I can't remember.

while I understand people have anxiety about public speaking, I really think they should suck it up for the wedding. If you love someone, you want to do it for them and that's more important. And anyway, the best way to conquer a fear is to face it.

This happened to me at my best friends wedding! Her MOH was her new step daughter, 14 at the time. All along she said she would do the speech. Wrote it, practiced it, and then minutes from the time to give it she came to me crying that she couldn't do it! I knew I should have prepared something! So I got up and winged! Not my most promising speech, but I got through it and people didn't boo! haha! Tell her to suck it up and do it! It's not so bad!

The BM and MOH give speeches at the wedding, usually at the beginning of the reception after the first dance. There are usually some speeches at the rehersal dinner too. The bride and groom to thank everyone and if the parents are throwing the wedding they usually say a few words! HTH

yeah a 14 year old kid is the exception :) An adult should really suck it up in my opinion.

tell her to get a good buzz, and to type up what she wants to say that way its right in front of her and she doesnt have to worry about awkward pauses or thinking too much!
