wood stairs...

what did you do with them? We just redid ours and they are so pretty without the carpet. Do we need a runner? What did you do with yours?

I need suggestions!

Re: wood stairs...

we have wood stairs and i always wanted to install a runner. we have wood floors throughout our house (except kicthen and baths) and have area rugs in all the rooms. i think it makes it more cozy then just having bare wood everywhere.

i think it really depends on what you have throughout the house. i like consistency and flow, so i would prefer (in my house ) to have a stair runner.

I just put a runner on my wood stairs because I hate when the white piece between each step gets dirty. The runner is Berber and a neutral beige color. I'm very happy with it.

I was just in a house that had a oriental runner going on the stairs with gold bars that kept them in place. It looked very rich and I am sure it protected the newly finished wood too.

We have wood staris with a runner on them from the previous owners. How do I get that repleaced? I like it but I don't like the rug colors - but I think it makes the stiars less noisy. Do I have to have a rug place do it?? How much do you think it will cost??

My runner was $276 and it is in a high ranch so its like two stairs cases split up.

For us, yeah.... the previous owners had GLUED down the carpet (which had a rubber backing) and the laminate floor that went up the middle. It was a real b!tch to remove and then sand down. My DH started sanding but it was too much. Had to do it by hand. We hired a flooring company to do it. They were cheap and did a quick neat fix up of it. It's not the best as we still have nail holes that were never filled in. I notice them but not many others do unless I point them out. We had to have the entire upstairs done (4 bedrooms and the hall).

Since the odor of the poly was strong, we needed to be out of the house for 3 days. Luckily we didn't fully move in at that time.

Good luck! I'm sure yours would be easier as ours was glued down. Such a pain in the a$$!

our dog keeps sliding down our steps (only six of them, thank goodness!) because they are wood floors. we need to get a runner asap to prevent this.

did you have it installed or did you do it yourself? just buy the carpeting at a carpet store?
