Woodbury Country Club VS. Watermill

Woodbury Country Club VS. Watermill

Myself and FH have finally narrowed down our reception hall decision. After visiting 12 halls (why did we do that to ourselves?), we love both the Watermill and the Woodbury County Club. We are looking at Sunday during the day in September 2005 (either the 4th or 18th).

I am praying I can get married outside, however I know that there is a 50% chance. I love both the indoor and outdoor scenarios for the Watermill however my FH's family lives in Queens and that will be a further drive for them. I love the Woodbury Country Club's outdoor scenarios for ceremony/cocktail hr. but I am not crazy about the what the indoor ceremony area. Any thoughts? Good/bad experiences?

My wedding is going to be at the Watermill. It is the last Sunday in April so it is an iffy chance that it will be outside. I've been to a wedding at the Woodbury Country Club also and it was great. Both of them are beautiful places. I haven't heard any negative feedback on either place.

Go with what your 'gut feeling' is telling you.

I read the post subject and immediatly thought about the distance between the two. Not sure if this is a case of too many cooks spoiling the broth, but maybe you can talk to some of the people traveling, see what they say. I don't know anything about either hall.

I have been to a wedding @ the Woodbury Country Club & it was great--the ceremony wasn't there but that place is very pretty & so are the grounds. The thing about the distance can definetely be a factor-especially if you have a lot of older relatives--I know it was a factor for us too, so we chose a central location that is easily accesible via a parkway. Ultimately, though it's up to you and it's your wedding--have it where you want too--people will be there no matter what. And especially if you have to take into consideration the indoor ceremony facilities--do it where you like the indoor best.

I visited both before selecting a venue and to me the Watermill blew the country club away, watermill didnt have a big outdoor area you are right but it was plenty for cocktail hour and some pictures.

Of course I'm biased towards WCC, but I haven't actually seen the Watermill, so I can't really compare. I understand what you mean about not being so thrilled about having the ceremony inside if the weather doesn't permit for an outdoor ceremony, but the way I see it, the ceremony is the smallest part of the day (smallest time wise, not in importance, obviously), and there were enough benefits to WCC to me to allow me to be comfortable knowing that even if I have to have the ceremony indoors, I'll deal with it and I know they'll do a superb job handling it.

I can honestly say that I never heard a bad thing about WCC. I haven't really paid attention to any negatives in regard to the Watermill, so I can't speak to that. I do think, however, that you should take into account not just the travel needs of FH's family (although that's important, if there's not a lot of them, it's not a big deal for one family to travel a little farther than another), but also the needs of your guests. Will most of them be centrally located to them both or will they be closer to one or the other?

Good luck with whatever you decide. I'm sure you will have the wedding of your dreams at either location!

I booked at the watermill for sept 04. We booked a few months ago and everyone there has been great. Samantha, the wedding consultant, is WONDERFUL. you get her office # and her home #..(how crazy is that!!). Anyway, my future in-laws and all of their friends are coming from Cederhurst and it's only 25 - 30 mins on the Northern State. good luck!

What about noise? The watermill is near a major road, not sure where WCC is. That's another consideration for an outside ceremony.

I would go with the Watermill IMO. We looked at both for our wedding- a good friend of mine and FH's family member both had their receptions at the Watermill. It is beautiful! We chose to get married at Villa Lombardi's and we do have some guests coming from Queens. I don't really think that is too bad of a ride . . . Good Luck w/ your decision!

I've been to weddings at both WCC and Watermill. Personally, I prefer the WCC. At most they have two affairs at a time and Watermill I believe can have three or four, and I think they have a restaurant too. That is just something that's important to me - maybe not to you. I also love the outside of WCC. My brother had his reception there and his CH was supposed to be outside but it rained - the inside room was beautiful too. I think they are both nice places and the food is equally good. Just decide what aspects are important to you and go with that place.

Watermill! Watermill!! I am partial since I am getting married there. I have many people traveling. I blocked hotel rooms and am providing transportation to and fromt he reception hall. Dont worry about the drive. Go with your gut feeling. We did and we have no regrets!

Although Watermill is on 347 they have all sorts of greenery grown up high that you cant even tell and no there is only 1 or 2 weddings at a time that are each on a seperate floor with separate bathrooms and everything so you wouldnt even know it.

I am having my wedidng at WCC
I have never been to Watermill. Since you are torn, look at the many different settings for pictures. WCC has different types of greenery, the fountain, the bridge. And it definitely is set back from the road. Good luck

Re: Woodbury Country Club VS. Watermill

My cousin got married at the Woodbury CC in August '02. It rained and the ceremony was inside. It was nice. They had to set it up in a short amount of time because the bride was iffy about the weather but with a little thought into it I am sure you can make the inside ceremony beautiful.
My cousin banked on it being outside and unfortunately the weather wouldn't cooperate. If you prepare for it then if you have to have the ceremony inside I think it is a beautiful place.

congrats!! You'll be in good hands!
Contact Samantha as soon as you both can get in there...she's got great advice, but realize too that the watermill has contracts with their vendors. so if you ask her about another independent vender, she'll probley tell you she never heard of them. Her job!!
