woodland vs royalton

Hi everyone!! I need your help!! I must decide where to book. We're planning a November 2014 wedding. Our church is in Williston Park and right now the front runners are woodlands and royalton. Location is important to me because I don't want to be in the limo for an hour after our ceremony. Royalton quote is more expensive but I feel the food will knock out the Woodlands. But I'm also worried about Royalton being too small to hold a possible party of 220. Anyone out there who would be comfortable in sharing quotes/prices they've gotten for both venues? Also what packages. Thanks in advance. I never imagined this decision would be full of torture!!

I looked at the Royalton for my wedding and I'm expecting around the same as you - I went to a wedding there for 200 people and it was so tight. Not only for the cocktail room but also the ballroom. it was so cramped even at each table

You have a FM with what I'm paying for The Royalton. I too was also between there and The Woodlands. Every time I tell vendors that I was between The Royalton and The Woodlands the first thing they tell me is that they are both beautiful venues but the food at The Royalton is far better. I'm inviting about 225 and everyone keeps telling me that the return rate of no is between 20%-30% . If you are inviting 220 you will fit very comfortably because not everyone will be responding yes. What I really didn't like about The Woodlands was that another event (not a wedding) can also be happening upstairs and FH was not a huge fan of the carpet. However, their grounds are absolutely gorgeous.

I went to an event at the woodlands a few times and honestly, 200 people were just way too many. It felt a bit cramped. I mean the place is beautiful, but the layout is kind of awkward. It's kind of hard to see the bride and groom & what's going on at the dance floor. I don't know how the royalton is set up though because I've never been there.

I've never been to the Royalton, but my cousin got married at the Woodlands, and the food was really good. Plus, their pics are phenomenal bc there are so many different places on the grounds to take them.

My friend got married at the Woodlands, the food and the place were amazing. You dont have to go to the park you can take alot of photos there...

I'm also getting married at St Aidans! I didn't take the Royalton into consideration only because a friend of mine had her reception there. We ended up booking the Woodlands after looking at other mansions (we also were concerned with the distance from the church to venue. I'm sending you FM with some more info!

both are very nice, and both have great food. However, I would go with the royalton only because the dancefloor at the woodlands is very odd... I looked at the woodlands and thought it was awful that the ballroom is a rectangle, and that the dancefloor is in the center of the rectangle. Basically, anyone at either end of the room would have to get up and walk to the dancefloor to be able to see the bride/grooms first dance, bouquet toss, etc. and that was the reason I ultimately decided against it.

other than that, there is nothing negative about the woodlands at all. I just really really did not like the set-up of that room though

i agree with this ... i thought that was odd too. It was one of the things that turned me off to the woodlands.

I went to a wedding at the Royalton a few weeks ago and it was amazing!! The place is beautiful - however, I would see if you could come in and see the set up for the amount of people you're having. The wedding I was at had maybe around 150 and I can't imagine fitting 220 in that room unless there's another section they had closed off.

Hi everyone.. I just got married a few weeks ago at the Royalton. ( I'm going through wedding-withdrawal right now.. which I guess explains why I'm still checking this site..lol.. However, when I see questions about the Royalton, I love answering them, b/c I know how stressed and tortured I was at times during the wedding planning process)

@ Kimmyrh20- I also tortured myself about the size of the Royalton and whether it would be big enough for my size party. When I booked the Royalton I told myself I definitely was not inviting more than 200 people.By the time I sent out invitations, I had 230 people. I was freaking out, but I really wanted to invite all of these people. In the end, I only had about 185 people at my wedding. It was not crowded AT ALL.. I actually think we could have fit 30 to 40 more people and it still wouldn't have been crowded.
Granted, we did have a really nice day, so most people were outside on the patio during cocktail hour, but if you have your wedding in November, you can use the tent and still use the patio and the cocktail hour room. Both of those spaces together will definitely be enough room.
The ballroom did not feel crowded at all. The dance floor looked full the whole night, but never packed. I never felt like I couldn't move around or anything. In fact, I actually like when weddings aren't in that big of a place. I've been to many weddings where the reception hall is on the larger size for the number of people there, and it always seems like the dance floor and the room overall is empty. The Royalton is big enough where there is plenty of room, but not too big, where you feel like people walk all over and disappear from the party. In the end.. I am soo happy I didn't end up picking another venue just because I was worried about the size because it ended up not even being an issue at all.
Oh, and one last thing.. I asked Gerard to keep the french doors open that connect the ballroom and cocktail hr room during the reception. I think this also helped create a more open area, and also a place were some people (especially older people) could hang out (it was set up like a lounge) if they wanted to be further away from the music. This is something you could do too, if you're concerned about space.
