wording

So- I am sort of back on track for the time being....(keep fingers crossed!).

I need to see some samples of invitation wording. I dont' want to do anything super creative . I want to keep it really formal. I just want to see what other people are using. Request the honor of your presence, invite you to the celebration of their marriage, etc. Thanks guys!

Re: wording

Mine was simple... Barbara and Ryan together with their parents invite you to share in the joy of their marriage on blah, blah, blah

Re: wording

We had a quote put at the top to go with our winter theme (our invitations have falling snowflakes on them). It says 'A perfect snowflake is a gift from the sky, as beautiful and unique as our love is meant to be'.
Then it goes something like
Marni....
and
Christopher...
along with the joy and blessings of their families
invite you to share in the union of their love
on their wedding day...

Something like that...

Re: wording

We used

Stacey
and Gary
invite you to share in their joy as they exchange their vows on....

It is simple but a litle different. I also had put on my response card 'We look forward to celebrating with you' instead of the norm ' your response is requested by'.

Hope this helps!

Re: wording

The wording 'honour of your presence' is used when you are inviting the person to a Church ceremony. We were very traditional as even though we are funding half the cost, we wanted to honor our parents. We went with:

Mrs. and Mrs John Doe
and
Mrs. and Mrs John Doe2

request the honour of your presemce
at the marriage of their children

Angelica
and
Massimo

on blah blah blah.

Re: wording

We used a quote on top of everything.

'A fresh new day and it is ours.
A day of happy beginnings'

then we used

My parents request the honour of your presence at the marriage of their daughter Erica to John son of Mrs grooms mother

someone talked me into 'request the honour' for formality, but then I found out that it is for religious ceremonies...uh oh...oh well...don't sweat the small stuff!

Re: wording

Dora, I am in ths same situation and that is the way I wanted to go, but FMIL never heard of that even though I have seen it that way countless times. We ended up taking her name out.

Re: wording

Oh man -- I'm shocked! I actually read that wording in an ad for invitations - and that's how it was written -- I thought it was a nice compromise between totally including or excluding....

Re: wording

I was in the same boat. I wanted to be traditional. My family is on LI and its at my church and my parents are paying for the reception hall and church, so we did

My parents
request the honour of your presence at the marriage of their daughter
my name
to
my fiance

And thats it. Thats the real old fashioned way. If you have a church service you are actually inviting people to your church...so thats why we did my parents....His parents are helping a little, but they are from out of town and don't really know what goes into a NY wedding. I didn't like 'son of' personally and either did he. I had a friend tell me that both parents should be on there b/c they gave some money, but I didn't think it was all about money. We look at it as my parents' hosting' the wedding. In the end, after all this stress, nobody has said anything, and if I think back I can't remember any of the other invites I have received.

Good Luck!

Re: wording

Dora,
Yes, it is a very nice compromise, but his mother I think wanted to be put up there with my parents or nothing even though she has done nothing and not even showed any interest. I have seen it the way you did it alot and I think it is very nice. It is a way of not excluding the other parent. My parents are helping and my mom has done everything with me in reference to the wedding. My FMIL claims she knows all of her wedding ettiquette and told me she never seen it that way. I laughed and told her to pick up an ettiquette book.
