Work associates at a wedding?

Work associates at a wedding?

Hi,

I have been working with the same company for three years, and two years ago I relocated to a different branch. For the first year, I worked hard and kept to myself, barely taking a break to socialize. This year, I have made several friends who I do not spend time with outside of work, though we go out to lunch frequently and make vague plans to go out in the future. There is also a significant age difference too, which might be why I'm not so confident about our friendships; the only things we have in common is work related.

That being said, there is already a work breakfast/wedding shower being planned for me ('secretly'), and I feel guilty taking part in it if I don't invite anyone from work.

What should I do????

I'm in a similar situation as you. Though I've been at my company longer, most of the other people in my dept. are newer. Since we're a small group, I'm still going to invite them. Worst case scenario, they say no! So if you have the space, I'd invite the ones you usually go to lunch with.

if you really want them at your wedding, then you should but i wouldn't invite them out of guilt ...

I would invite those people that I'm closest to if I were you. And of course if your budget allows for it.

agreed... dont invite them because they are throwing you a shower... or because they invited you to their wedding... invite them because you want them there

Thanks for the advice! I am planning on staying at this job for a really long time, so it is probably for the best that I invite them.

Happy New Year, everyone!

I am having a shower at my job as well and I have been working here for 6 years and it is a very large building we have 20 floors so I know a lot of people and my shower will have about 60 ppl that I am close to and of the 60 only 5 are invited to my wedding because they are the ones that I consider to be friends and we are friends outside of t he job. Don't feellike you have to invite someone just because you work with them. They will understand. A job shower is not the same as a reg shower so the ppl will know and understand why they are not invited to the actual wedding. JMO

do you talk to them about the wedding? i mean of course you might mention a few words but i think if you talk a lot about it, then yes, you should invite those people. also, like you said if you feel you will stay for a long time at this job and you go with them to lunch all the time, then maybe you should invite them if you have the space,. if you didnt have the space or budget i would say, they should be on a 'b-list' but otherwise, i would go for it. they might not come even.

I feel like it is common for work showers to occur, and for those employees to not be invited to the wedding. I'm invited 4 of my coworkers (I THINK)...I'm def inviting 1 b/c we talk all the time. and the other 3 probably. But we have the same situation as you kinda...and honestly, if I choose not to invite them, I don't think they would be offended. I think this is a situation where you can really do what you want with it.

work showers are very common... i know here everyone just throws in a couple of bucks and the just get a gfit from everyone! i am inviting about 6 people from work (with their sig others) and my department is like 50 people, i could never invite them all to the wedding!

enjoy the shower and give thanks but you are not obligated to invite any of them! we threw a wedding shower for our colleague too and we didn't expect her to invite us just because of it (even with the fact that we know she's having a big wedding)
