work invite etiquette

work invite etiquette

I work in a small department and would like to invite a few people but am trying to keep it small. Does anyone know if it is necessary to invite all the bosses to your wedding? What is everyone else doing?

It is only necessary to invite the people you want to share your day - If there is a boss you work directly under you can invite them but you do not have to. I was not inviting any of my 3 former bosses nor am I inviting my new boss (I started a new job a few weeks ago)

ugh i am having the same issue - but i think when it comes down to it i am only inviting who i want to - not who i feel like i have to....

how do you go about getting their addresses? i can easily look up my bosses addresses but is that weird? am i supposed to ask them for their address and tell them i need it because id like to send them an invitation?

I work in a group of 12 and faced the same problem. I wanted to invite a few, but then I figured it would look so bad if I didn't invite the rest.
The way I handled it was instead of inviting the few that I wanted with a guest, i just invited my entire team, and have them come without a plus one.
This way, they can come together as a team if they wanted to really be there, or they don't have to come at all...at least I did my part.

the whole thing is tricky. I could definitely invite my whole dept with out guests, but than my boss, i would have to invite with her husband, and then i still sort of report to a higher person than her. i have been told to invite him as a courtesy even though he probably wont come but i am still not sure.

Ask human resources for their addresses.

I'm in the same boat as you regarding getting addresses. I feel awkward asking my bosses for their addresses. I tried looking them up online but couldn't find it. I wish it was that easy for me.
