Okay, most of you know that I am a singing bartender in a piano bar. I have been there for about 5 years. I leave when I get a show and there is always a job waiting for me when I come back. In all honesty, I enjoy my job. The people I work with are my NYC family. Well, like in all families you don't always love everyone all of the time. Last night, the newest member of our staff (and by new that means she has worked there for about 2 years) looked at me and said she felt cheap for working at the bar. She said she feels like it is prostituting out her amazing talent. Now, she is a great singer, but so is everyone that works there. I was at a loss for words. I was just so pissed. How dare you say that to a co-worker. Oh, she is SO good that she should not have to pay her dues like the rest of us. I just said ' Remember you could be scrubbing toliets.' , But I wanted to say so much more. I hate the way so many people have this 'The World owes me something attitude'. Meanwhile they do nothing to try and help their careers but moan and groan about how much better they are then everyone else.
