Worried about hotel blocks....

Hi All,

My wedding is upstate in a college town.

The hotel where we are having the wedding only allowed me to block off 10 rooms. I blocked off rooms in 4 other hotels as well (I have a total of 60 rooms blocked off)...

I just found out that our hotel is booked for that weekend. We only have 2/10 rooms booked for the block, but I'm worried because a lot of guests have expressed interest in staying at that hotel. I have a contract for the block, so I should have 8 more rooms available.

I am worried because everyone is travelling from out of town. The other hotels are a 5-10 minute drive to campus.

If you were a guest at a wedding, do you think it would be a big deal to drive 5-10 minutes to get from your hotel to the wedding?

TIA

honestly if i were a guest from out of town and had to drive 5-10 minutes after driving who knows how long to be there it wouldn't be a big deal to me...what's a 5-10 minute drive to people who are already coming from far?

not at all. if you are concerned about them not having transportation (if people are from out of state and wont have their cars) you could provide a shuttle from the hotel to the venue.

however, 5-10 min is nothing. dont worry about it!

if you have other accomodations else where then dont worry too much about it- 5 10 minutes is no biggie my guests are about 20 minutes away from the church & rh itdefinitely beats driving 2-4 hours

I dont think its that big a deal.....as long as they have somewhere to stay, I think people will be ok with it.

Not at all, they should be glad that your blocked rooms for them instead of having them look for hotels.rooms on their own. Its so hard to satisfy everyone but you are doing the best you can to accommodate your oot guests. Don't worry about it 5-10 minute drive is nothing. Good Luck!

5-10 minutes doesnt seem to be a huge deal,

we just went to a wedding and our hotel was 20 minutes away from the RH, but they provided a school buss to get us there and back with out having to drive, in case some had to much to drink and i think the buss was extremely cheap maybe just a fre hundred

I would not have a problem and I don't think your family and friends would either because they want to be there for you on one of your very special days.

I hope that I helped you out a little.

Thanks for all your responses!

I was just concerned because a lot of people complained about the distance (driving for 5 hours or taking the bus)...but it looks like a lot of people are planning on making the trip!

Thanks!

i wouldn't be at all. that's pretty short, actually. our hall was our main hotel and we found out about two months out that they were closing half of it for renovations. our other hotel was about 15-20 min away so everyone else went there. as long as you can guide people to hotels in the area, you are fine. your guests won't be scared away b/c of the distance b/w the ceremony/reception and their hotel.

5-10 mins is not a terrible drive from hotel to ceremony/rh at all.

if you are concerned about the hotel being booked though, definitely contact the hotel and just check in.....ask how many of your rooms have been booked and then be like, oh ok, so that means 8 rooms are still available under my block, right? And see what they say. If you have 10 rooms contracted, they should still be available. But most hotels put the rooms back up for public about 30 days prior to your event.

More then half of my guests were in suffolk county and drove to nassau for my wedding, 5-10 minutes is not alot to ask at all.

Also if the rooms are blocked dont worry, they have to guarantee them when you signed the contract with them
