Worried about my cervix!

I went for my OBGYN annual a week ago and they just called now saying that my pap smear came back atypical but that they tested for HPV and i'm negative for that (thank God--I got the vaccine for it!)

This happened last year as well when I got my pap smear, they told me i had abnormal cells in my cervix and I had a colposcopy done (the results came out ok)

So now a year later it's happening again!

I know I shouldnt get worried but I can't help it. It's scary!!

Should i go to another dr and have another pap smear?

Im so sorry you are going thru this!!! What my gyno told my friend who had the same thing happen 4 times is that if you use tampons on a regular basis, cells can come out abnormal. I would talk to your doctor and discuss a suitable course of action to figure out what to do next.

i do use tampons so maybe thats why. thanks for posting!

Awww....i'm sure nothing's wrong, but I could see how that would make you nervous..here's some hugs, try not to think too much..

if you don't feel 100% comfortable with your outcome maybe you should seek someone else for piece of mind and just to be sure hope everything is okay

Lots of women have abnormal paps and there is nothing wrong with them.

Take to your dr. about reasons why you have an abnormal pap andwhat you can do to change that. They'll always want to amke sure it's nothing else.

I would talk to the doctor and find out if there's another possible reason this could be happening. Also, if you're worried, there's no harm in seeing a specialist. Just to ease your mind.

Being a girl and having these issues can totally blow sometimes!! I know how you feel.

I'm going through problems down there as well. I have abnormal bleeding from the cervix. I went for a sonogram on friday, so now i'm just waiting. We can all tell you not to worry, but since I'm kinda in your situation, I know that I'm freaked out.

Did your Dr. tell you what could be causing the abnormal results? If she cant give you an answer, I would check out another dr, or get another test.

I would ask my doctor if this is something that is going to continue to happen to you when you get a pap smear..is this going to be considered 'normal' for you?

I would also see if its possible it could be somehting else or if there is anything that can be done so it doesnt happen? I would stress to him/her that you are not comfortable with this occuring with every pap!

From someone who's been through medical hell, I empathize with you!

One of those silly disclaimers first.... I'm not a doc, just have a million medical issues, have done a lot of research, and can offer some advice.

If you like and trust your doctor, I wouldn't go to another one just yet. I'd ask if they can re-test you either now, or in 2-3 months as a follow-up to see if it's definitely abnormal cells or just a fluke of the test at this point in time.

I had the same thing happen last year. What we did was re-test 3 months later to see what the results were, and they came back normal. I'm a bone cancer survivor and have to be extremely careful and on top of medical tests, so anything abnormal raises some flags. My OB-GYN had said if it was very suspicious, she would've suggested I send the results to my docs at Sloan-Kettering for reevaluation.

I know how nervewracking this can be. If it gives you peace of mind, call for a re-test. If you're not happy with the doctor's manner or just the overall feel of everything, then I'd say search out another doc. I've done that in the past. It's not a pleasant or quick thing, but it made a huge difference.
