Worried about my sister

Worried about my sister

She called me to say she has a bad pain in her lower back. A few months ago she was hospitalized with a urinary tract infection that spread to a kidney infection and she said this pain feels like that pain.
I am hoping this is just a pregnancy related pain... did anyone experience anything similar?
If not, and this is a kidney infection, how bad is that for her baby?
She is 11 weeks.

She'll be fine even if she had a kidney infection, they'll give her antibiotics and tell he to take it easy. It can also be ligament pain, you'd be surprised how intense the pain can be as the baby grows and your body adjusts and stretches to accomodate that little bean. She is going through a week that there is major growth of the baby.

Thanks for responding.
I am going with her to her 12 week sonogram next week. I am excited but now nervous.

I am sure she is fine, I had back pains here and there thru out my whole pregnancy, more towards the end though. She should mention it to her dr. just in case so they note it and check everything out

I agree with the other ladies - sounds like she'll be fine. It could be any number of pg related aches and pains, especially around this time - she about to go into her 2nd trimester and experience big growth spurts.

Plus, UTIs are common during pregnancy from what I've read. Of course, though she should tell her dr about it.

I just had this last week. I woke up with an achy lower back and immediately thought uti (because I was prone to them prior to being PG). I made an appt w/ my dr, they did an in-office urine test and sent me to the lab for further checking AND started me on antibiotics (which are OK during PG) as a precaution. Thankfully everything came back OK so it was most likey PG related aches and pains! Your sis should just call the dr but she'll be fine even if it is a UTI

Julz I had the exact same thing. I thought I was in labor the pains were so bad. I was in the hospital over night on a continuous iv drip of saline and anti-biotics. My son was fine the infection, though very bad, did not infect or affect him at all. I was released and was on oral anti-biotics for 10 days.

I'm sure your sister will be fine. Tell her to drink enormous amounts of water. Her kidneys are working overtime because of the baby so drinking water is very important.
