Hi girls. This is not a pregnancy related question, but I know you have all been through just about everything there is, so I am hoping someone can calm my fears.
My mother went to the dr. a few weeks ago because she had really bad stomache aches. They did an exam on her (don't know the name) and found that her fallopian tubes was severely dilated (enlarged). So she had to go to a lab and have something else done. So the dr. called this morning and told her that she has cysts on her ovaries and she has to go back when she has her period so they can recheck the fallopian tubes. I am so afraid she has cancer or something. I know the cysts on the ovaries are common, but what could be wrong with the fallopian tubes? They mentioned an infection? I am so scared. And we have to wait now, and I hate waiting. I always think the worst!
Do you girls know how they get rid of cysts on the ovaries? don't they freeze them or something? What do you girls think. Cancer always the first thing to come to my mind and I panic. I can take anything but that!

Cysts are VERY common. Most cysts are NOT cancer. Some dissolve on their own too. If the doctor really believed it was cancer your Mom would be having more tests done right away. They don't want around for stuff like that.

I know, thank you. I just get so scared, you know.
Do you know how they remove them. With a laser or do they freeze them?

My sister had her's frozen- but it hurt like helL . I don't know anything about the laser stuff. Sometimes they do dissolve so no need for removal. I know caffine makes cysts worse.

OMG, my parents are the biggest coffee drinkers. I can talk to them til i am blue in the face. They won't give it up. Maybe this will be an eye-opener. Thanks so much Michele for taking the time to talk to me about this. Does anyone know anything about the fallopian tubes. I am more concerned with that becuase I know the cysts are common.

This is for your Mom, right? If it is your Mom then honestly she doesn't even need her tubes anymore as I would assume she has all the kids she wants. I mean, not sure if she is in menapause or not yet but even if they had to be removed she would okay.

Re: Worried. Please help!!
I had FOUR bilateral ovarian cystectomies - this means that I had four operations where they had to remove cysts from both ovaries. Each time, I had what's called 'dermoid tumors', which are complex cysts, but not malignant. In order to remove the cysts (and the procedure might have changed since then), I had major surgeries each time, leaving a scar from my belly button all the way down. The recovery was slow (total of two months until I was completely back to myself), but not overly incredibly painful. The last operation was about 8 years ago, and I finally was put on birth control, which stopped the cysts from forming ever again. I know you're concerned, and you should be, but it could be SO many things - even a functional cyst, which comes and goes every month and nothing to worry about. My best advice, get second opinions no matter what! My second opinion saved me from a fifth operation, which saved enough ovary tissue so that I'm now 7 months pregnant! (and, by the way, I got pregnant after only 3 weeks of trying!!!) Good luck to your mom!

UPDATE Re: Worried. Please help!!
Thank you girls. Yes, I was thinking they can remove them. I guess I am just a worry wort! Thanks for making me feel better. She has a gyno app't July 2. And she has to go back to the radiologist when she gets her next period so they can check her tubes again. I will keep you girls posted.
She will not be having any more children.~ :)
I do think though like was said, if it was serious, they would not be having her wait. Thanks so much for responding to this.
Denise ------------------------------------------------------------ My mothers gyno called her and is making her come in tonight. Now I am a nervous wreck. I am thinking the worst. Please help calm my fears, I can cry right now.

Try not to panic because many women have these scares every single day and many, many are nothing in the end just remember that NO MATTER WHAT YOU CAN HANDLE THIS. I think sometimes we need to be reminded that we are going to be okay, even when bad things happen. You would be surprised how strong you and your mom can really be.

Re: UPDATE Re: Worried. Please help!!
Thank you Michele. We have had a lot of scares in the last few years with my Dad's health, and luckily that is all they have been. My fear is of our luck running out.
Although, I am feeling a little better and trying to talk myself out of worrying until they tell us its something to worry about.
Thanks for your support and caring. I really, really, really appreciate it! :)
Love you girls, Denise

Re: UPDATE Re: Worried. Please help!!
Hi girls.
Thanks for all your kind words and support. Well my Mom went last night and the doctor kind of rushed her so she didn't get much info. (we are going to go back and find out more). Anyway, the gist of it is that her fallopian tube is dilated (not infected), but is prone to infection. He wants to remove it through surgery. I think we should get a second opinion. Can anyone recommend a great OB/GNY in the Babylon/Bayshore/Islip area. My parents live in Selden but will travel. I am also asking for myself. I have been with my doctor (the same doctore my Mother went to last night) for years (I was delivered by this practice). Anyway, I have always felt that you get rushed there and he doesn't answer to many questions. He is a VERY intelligent (his waiting room is filled of all these birthing inventions he is patenting) but seems like he is zoned out all the time. You know how they say that really intellegent people can be very strange. Being that we will be TTC soon, I am considering changing doctors, I don't want to leave an office and not have everything explained to me. This is what happened to my Mom last night. I know there is a great office in Bayshore I think, Dr. Judge? There is a woman named Denise something there too? I just hear they sometimes stop accepting patients they are so busy. I hear they are great though. Can you girls recommend someone. My Mom is going to go for a second opinion. Thanks.

Re: UPDATE Re: Worried. Please help!!
Dennis- I have gone to Dr. Debra Davenport's office, as do 2 of my friends. She is in pretty close to you near Pt. Jefferson (but the town before it, and I always forget the name). I never felt rushed. I just wanted a midwife when I got pregnant so that is why I switched doctors. I would 100% get a second opinion before anyone cut me.
