online? My girlfriend is doing this, she picked out the style and tried it on in person and is buying it from a bridal website that has fantastic prices. I'd be nervous for sure, but their prices were very good and she will have it altered elsewhere. I am going to wait and see how her experience is...but I'd maybe consider it...seems bridal stores are no more reliable, given the trouble brides seem to be having!

Re: Would anyone ever buy their dress...
I've seen my dress cheaper online, but I'm very hesitant about buying it that way. I'd be worried about finding a good place for alterations that wouldn't charge a ridiculous amount since I didn't buy from them.

i'd just feel weird about it... i don't know why! i buy tons of other things online and you're right that sometimes going to the bridal shop is more trouble than it's worth but i don't know if i could buy the gown online!

Re: Would anyone ever buy their dress...
Well I have heard of some brides doing this but for me I would rather the piece of mind ordering it from a store. I know even stores can be unreliable but I just feel better about it.
I thought about it for a while though when I saw my dress for $400 less then the store but at the end of the day we chose not to go the online route.

if she can get a quote in writing and bring it to RK Bridal they will meet it and even take off 5%!!!! From what I heard their alterations stink, so go with the no frills program where they just order it for you!

Definitely! My sister just ordered a bm dress online and she had no problems at all! If its cheaper and it can be returned if something is wrong, then why not!

I would do a little research on the company it's being ordered from. Make sure the dress is returnable if it arrives and it's not the way it's excpected to be.

I wouldn't. I like the fact that a shop can handle everything- from the ordering to the alterations. You may find the dress cheaper but it may be a fortune to find someone to alter it.

Re: Would anyone ever buy their dress...
I WISH I had done that. If you know your size then it's a smart thing to do. Wedding gown's dont come in normal street sizes so I was afraid to do it but for the amount of money you'll save...it's soooo worth it!

Re: Would anyone ever buy their dress...
the only problem is that you have to be careful with taking it elsewhere for alterations. When you buy it at the store they cap their alterations price, so it would be about $250-300 on average for ANY work you need done on the dress, no matter how much is done the alterations would not cost more than that. Taking it elsewhere they will charge for every single thing being done to the dress. One girl on LIW bought her dress at running of the brides for an amazing price and ended up selling her dress bc when she brought it to seamstress to alter it, they were going to charge more than what she paid for the dress. Some of these wedding dress alterations can be 900-and past 1k for alterations depending what you need done so i'd be careful. You can end up paying more in alterations than what you saved on the dress.
ALSO be careful what site you order from, on LIW there have been MANY horror stores about house of brides which is asite that sells dresses for alot less. ANd there was an article how some sites sell dresses of certain designers but are actually just copies they made. Do research on the site first and check the better business bureau for reviews on the site
There are some who have great experiences online so its definitely possible, just as long as you do research on the site itself. Also if you know a seamstress already that will work with you on the price. I mean bustles alone can cost just about what the cap at most stores cost. A bustle is anywhere from $15-25 a point, if you have alot of points(buttons) that you need bustled it will be about $125, and even in the 200's price range, so thats without even alterations and you are at that price

I don't think I would buy my dress online, eventhough I do a lot of online shopping. Thats one thing you have to buy in person.

Re: Would anyone ever buy their dress...
In reality a lot of the bridal shops can mess up with ordering the dress and alterations. This is something that brides must take a chance with, but I think I would still trust a bridal shop more than online.
