Would it be weird if....

Would it be weird if....

Ok. Let me start by saying I am not inviting children to the wedding, so therefore it is an adult reception. One example as to why is that my uncle & aunt have two young kids, I know they won't be able to enjoy themselves with them there.

So I obviously don't have a flower girl. But would it be weird if I were to ask one of my sister's friends (who's very close with our family) to be one despite the fact she's 21? She actually suggested it when I said I don't have a flower girl cause there are no children at the wedding. I don't know how I feel about it.. I think it could be different in a cool kind of way.. like an unexpected thing. My mom & FMIL think it would be ridiculous.

Your thoughts?

LOL I eveb doubt they make flower girl dresses in her size. I'd have her wear something light colored (my wedding color is purple so maybe have her in a light lavender?) similar to a flower girl but not puffy!

would she be throwing flowers? or just walking down- cause if she's just walking down then basically she would just be a BM......

maybe you can have her hand out petal cones and she would be in charge of having everyone throw the petal at you guys, so she's still a flower girl but in a more adult way.?????

I'm not having kids at my reception also. The only kids will be the flower girl and ring bearer. It is ok to have small kids who are coming out in your bridal party to be there.

Good Luck

i have to agree with your mom and fmil... its kinda crazy... some things are a different good.... i dont think this is one of them... im not having a flower girl or ring bearer bc we dont have kids around us that are young enough .... it no biggie if you dont have one...

Re: Would it be weird if....

i think it's just the term 'flowergirl' that's making it seem a little funny lol...but seeing the visual of her walking down laying down petals would actually be really pretty..u just have to come up with a new name for her lol. maybe just a 'guest of honor' or something.. believe it or not my DH was a ring bearer in a wedding party when he was 19! walked down with a bm, but carried a ring pillow and everything! to each is own, do what u want.. on another note; if not having a FG is only because u're not having children at the reception , u CAN still have one for the ceremony if u want too, and just not at the reception. I had my FG's & RB's be the only exception to the rule, but i've seen it done plenty of times where the FG's and RB's are in the ceremony and photos, but head home before the reception..

It wouldn't be right IMO. It would look terrible, actually, to have a 21 yo flowergirl. Like everyone else said, just make her a BM.

I think its cute that she wants to be involved- maybe you can call her something else like a flower maiden or whatever

My Aunt wanted to be my FG. Now she's threatening my sister with the same. She's 52.

Sounds like what you've got yourself is a Jr. BM, not an FG.

Your sisters friend could actually be a 'hostess' she is in charge of handing out programs helping with seating and helping you. She could hand out petals and bear in mind that they can stain your dress so maybe its best not to throw them all over the aisle anyway.......Her name would be listed in the programs after the bridesmaids so its a special assignments
