Would this be rude?

Would this be rude?

One of FI's friends is getting married this summer, and I was invited to the bachelorette party. It's in the city and the suggested itinerary includes a one-hour limo ride w. champagne from Grand Central (most of the girls live in Westchester/CT) and then dinner and drinks at a hotel. The estimated cost for everything is around $200 per person including us paying for the bride. With my wedding and moving into a new apartment around that time (paying movers, painting, etc.) money will be tight.

I live in the city, and was wondering if it would be rude of me to say I will meet them at the hotel and skip the limo ride. I'm not sure how much it would be compared to the rest of it, and while it may be fun, I think dinner and drinks would still be an enjoyable time. I feel guilty, but a $2 subway ride seems much more economical for me right now.

It's entirely up to you if you want to go. I don't think $200 is that much - I've heard of much worse prices, but I think if you opt for the subway ride, I don't see them giving you a break on price since it's one less person splitting the bill. They may still ask for the $200 - so I'd go for the day... if you can.

If money is that tight, skip it. It's up to you!

You have to feel it out- I know that some people would be offended by this and others would be very understanding...but you can only do what you can do! I am sure that if you explain it clearly there won't be a problem.
Sounds fun

that's true- it's like when you go out to eat and some order steaks but you eat a salad and pay the same...if that is the case, just go for it!

$200 seems about right. I think it's ok to skip the limo, but I don't really think it'll save you THAT much money

Thanks for the responses so far. I was thinking that since I wouldn't be in the limo the price for them may go up. So you think it would be OK if I ask how much the limo portion is, see if I'll save $$ by skipping anyway, and then see if it would increase the price for them a lot?

if you only save a little then i wouldnt bother but if it is a significant amount than explain situation...it should be fine

Honestly, I'm sure they'd expect you to pay for the limo ride even though you're not taking it. I've been in a similar situation, where a bunch of us have gone out for dinner, and some order more than others, but at the end of the night, we split everything evenly. I suggest skipping the entire thing or sucking up the $200....I'm not attending my FI's friend's FI's (if that makes any sense...) bachelorette party...Their wedding is a month before ours, and I'm not as close with this girl, and can't afford it.

I agree with this.
Even if you don't go in the limo ride, they might still charge you for it. $200 is not that bad at all.

No that is not rude I think what was rude is how they did not consider how you are getting married and your expenses right now are tight.
