I'm going to be getting married next July (for the 2nd time. First time I had the big wedding & shower/engagement party), well this time FIL's are throwing the engagement party for us (FH is an only child) & his mom keeps making comments re: the shower.
I feel kinda strange having another shower as I had one 8 years ago for my first wedding. However, I also feel that FH should be entitled to his day in the sun too (his mom has been going to all the showers for her family for years).
My SIL asked me if I'd want a shower b/c she would throw it for me (his mom is throwing the engagement party & the rehearsal dinner & paying for our band). Part of me wants to have it, but part of me thinks my family would be like, ANOTHER shower?!
I was thinking maybe of having a smaller one w/ his side of the family & some work friends & such.
SIL said you could always just invite everyone & if people don't want to come, then they don't come.(But I also don't want hard feelings or comments).
What do you think?

Re: Would you?
I am from the school that doesn't care what others say. Cindy, if you want another shower then have it! Even though you had one before, you can still have one. This shower is about your and your FI. I agree with your SIL that those who will want to come will.

Re: Would you?
IMO- you should have it!! The shower would be to celebrate THIS marriage- nothing to do with anything in the past!! I am actually going to a massive shower in July for a 36 year old fiance of fh's friend- it is her 2nd wedding and she had engagement party, her bach. party is in vegas, black tie wedding with 300 guests- the works. IMO the over the top bach party is a little much, but the shower is fine!!
You deserve it

Re: Would you?
If you still feel funny having one, why don't you try having a Jack-n-Jill shower - just an idea. This way you and your FH can celebrate together.

Have it! This is my second time around, but my FH's first. As another poster mentioned above, you should celebrate this marriage without worrying about the first.

Re: Would you?
Is this 'ANOTHER' wedding??? NOOOO! so why shouldn't you have EVERYTHING that goes along with being a bride....especially since this is the first for your FH...
you are starting a NEW life together....what happened in the old one doesn't count! Go for it!

this is a good idea.
i think you should have it, it doesn't matter what you did 8 yrs ago, its about the life you have now w/ your FH. his family doesn't seem bothered by it so who cares what anyone else thinks!

Re: Would you?
I like the idea of having the Jack N Jill shower so that you're FH can share in on the excitement of having a shower and getting all the stuff. Who cares what other people may think. If they don't like it then they won't come. You have to do what you want to do.

Re: Would you?
I would have a shower! You don't want your FI or his mom to feel bad that you 'already did all this', so let it go. It's the first time you're marrying him, so nothing should change much. A lot can change in 8 years, patterns go out of style or china breaks. It might make your guests feel better not to bring gifts if you don't need them, just GTG and have a party. JMO!

I agree, have the shower. If people on your side aren't happy about it, they won't get you such an big gift or they won't come- their loss. I think his mom and his sister are excited to do this for the 2 of you and you should let them

Have another shower! Those that love you will love to celebrate with you. The others.. they just don't have to come if they don't want to

Re: Would you?
Thanks so much ladies for your support. Especially after reading your comments, I'm leaning more towards having one.
I like the idea of a Jack n- Jill shower, but we are having an engagement party w/ couples, etc., so I think we'd stay the traditional route.
I still have time to think about it, but my SIL (bro's wife) wanted a heads up on what I was thinking.
